Looks like I'll need to squeeze one more autograph onto the 1967 autograhed drivers helmet!

Jan - Thanks for posting the pics of your memorabilia. Regarding, Richard Sauer, I believe I have his arm bands that state "Director Timing and Scoring". I will dig them up/photograph/and post.

Jan,

The contents of the Time Capsule are very important to us. Anything you can recall about it, material placed in it persons who were involved, or details (no matter how minor) would be greatly appreciated. Big Grin

Jan,

Do you remember any opening of a time capsule from 25 or 50 years prior to the 1967 Indy 500 during any of the 1967 Festival month ceremonies? Thanks for all you have shared here with us. Sorry for this bombarding of questions.

I don't recall ever seeing the contents of the Victory Banquet program? Jan, I've noticed you have not mentioned much about your contact with A.J. Foyt? During the Victory Banquet I hear he was a little arogant and their was some tension between him and other drivers? Also do you remember if a pace car was at the banquet/Murat to be awarded as one of the prizes for winning the race?

No, I don't remember what was placed into the time capsule. The newspaper photos I have show one of me holding the Indianapolis Star with the headline "Heavy Cong Attacks Seen"! under that is the headline "'500' Festival Makes Debut Today" and (can I just start using Idr for I don't remember because my fingers are wearing out typing that and it makes me feel older than dirt?) having seen the photo here with the photo of myself Idr doing even that! You obviously see it says to be open in 2017. I also have a news photo with the caption: "WILL I LIVE THAT LONG?--That seems to be the question Queen Janice Cruse ponders as she drops a picture of herself into the time capsule on opening day ceremonies at the Speedway." I don't know what else was placed in the capsule or where it was to be placed. I guess we'll have to wait a few years. I hope I make it. roll

As for remembering if they had opened one 25 or 50 years before -- and I'll just say I assume you mean, "had you heard of that?" Spin No, actually Idr.

Now I've answered one of my own questions. I wasn't sure when the photo was taken of me stepping out of, I believe it's car #92, in the princess outfit, and now I realize it was on opening day!

Unfortunately I only have that program cover as a souvenir from the night of the Victory banquet. I don't think I have one photo. That's one night I do have memories of. A.J. and I sat maybe one seat away from the podium and to the left of it if you were in the audience. It seems he was on my left but I'm not sure about that and yes, I observed some tension--lots of good natured ribbing perhaps but some with an edge. A.J. made some negative comments about the pace car he was going to receive. I think most kind of under his breath which I could obviously hear. Since I was turning mine in, I thought that was too bad. I should have offered him my family's '56 Ford, doncha think, since he was a Ford man?!

Tony, I don't have that plaid outfit or the princess one either. Frowner I wasn't fond of the plaid one. I looked dumpy in it. It looks great on the tall willowy blond in the newspaper story that talks about what I would wear. Honestly they made such an issue over our clothes and newspaper articles focused on fashion. I sound like a vacuous preppy, but I was a pretty serious college student, in love and very concerned about Viet Nam. All that said, I was treated so well and had a blast.

I forgot to comment on the above picture. I didn't remember ever having seen that one until you sent it, Tony. I wasn't in the Terre Haute Tribune feature, and I do think it's better than some they chose--and THERE IT IS again plainly -- 33. Duh, Jan.

Jan,

You comments about AJ's taste in automobiles seems to confirm some of the stories we have been told too.

I will be the first to offer. If you want we plan to be at IMS for the Time Capsule Opening.

We would be glad to give you a ride to the podium in our Pace car as I am sure they will want you there. Cheers hello racer

Jan,

I have a question that I'm sure Tony may have already asked you as he absolutely loves these cars! We'll actually a few of us here do... Wink I'm expecting an IDR, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Smiler

Did you ever recall seeing any pace cars driving around with a Blue convertible top (likely would have to be up for you to notice it) instead of the normal white top cars? These are the cars we call "Blue Toppers".
