Excellent idea! But how about they have the 1967, 1969, and 2010 cars and queens there as the 2010 was designed off the 1969 car, although they should have choose the 67'...

My God!!!

This is the best idea Pat!!!!!

If there was a way to make it happen we should try to bring it to their attention!!!!

GM these days isn't like the GM of old... Missing things such as the reintroduction of the Camaro on it's 40th Birthday proved it to me!!
I pray that they can "GET IT RIGHT" this time!

I suppose we should ask Jan first before we get her involved in a National capaign ad Smiler To me it would make perfect sense for GM to use such a gimic as we all know the new Camaro will target both todays generation as well as the baby boomers. The 67 Camaro and Indy 500 paid for Jan's college maybe the 2010 would pay for the grand daughters? Hey, how about Jan in a 67 pace car while the grand daughter pulls up in a 2010. I should have been in advertising! Kevin or Scott should be able to get to the right GM brass?

I'm a traditionalist!! No doubt!

I honestly believe it's the glue that keeps or society and all that we celebrate together!

When I saw that picture that Tom posted of the 2008 Float filled with this year's princesses riding down the same streets that Jan's float went down so long ago.... well ...it just has a way of putting everything into a different perspective! Smiler

It's only fitting these images would have a blue and white cast to them.

WOW! AWESOME! Welcome JAN! You have no idea how cool it is to have you join us here on the 1967 pace car site. Be forewarned, the nuts here want to live/relive the 1967 Indy 500 events vicariously through you!
Here is a picture from an estate in Fishers, IN....I am sure there are many more out there like this one.

Jan- two questions for you please:
1. Do you have any documents in your scrapbook that relate to Chevrolet, General Motors, the Festival Committee, the events schedule, the pace car, the parade, the queens ball, etc.?
2. Do you still have your crown?
Smiler

Thanks and welcome aboard!

Marty, what kinds of things are you looking for? I have a Chevy emblem printed on a place card, the invitation to the Pace Car Reception and Luncheon at the Speedway Motel on April 29 -- no, no pics of that, and I don't remember the event Frowner . There were so many. I have a festival program --probably some of you do as well. I have many photos of Queen's Ball, many newspaper clippings.

I have a newspaper photo taken sitting on the back of the car at the Allison Division of General Motors Powerama on 10th Street receving a bouquet of roses from Richard Sauer who was director of timing and scoring. I tried to scan it for Tony, but it came out badly.

The large crown was kept in a vault and used every year. It's since been replaced. The small tiara that each of us were given, I gave away to a neighbor girl in the 70's in Indy. Who knew I'd have 9 granddaughters!

As for the boa: I have it and although my granddaughters have played dress up with it, it's in good condition. It was made by L.S. Ayers and was "dark ranch and autumn haze mink" and was presented to me at Ayers. I think they also gave me two pairs of Oleg Cassini sunglasses. I have the plaid ones; I don't know what happened to the cooler checked ones.

About the fur piece the newspaper said, "A new "500" social status symbol may be on the way, if a fun fur fashion catches on. In gear for the 'in crowd' are little furs that the ladies may hang on to traditionally for race time each year."

I was the first one to wear one of these furs. They were so sweet when they gave it to me, and I wore it for photos, but I thought it was hilarious and couldn't let on that I did because honestly they were so dear about it and proud of it.

I took pictures of it this afternoon for you to see and of my ballgown--the gems on the cap sleeves are tarnished. I also received a beautiful white fox stole -- you won't believe what I did with it! I made a lion's mane from it for The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe--I play I directed at the small Christian high school where it taught. It was a lovely mane and Aslan looked magnificent in it.

One of the items I treasure is the cover of the program with driver's autographs. It has Harlan Fengler too, and Mario, A.J., Jackie Stewart, Lloyd Ruby and others. I had them sign it at the awards banquet. Don't know if it will show up well here until I post.

My sister Polly doesn't have a scrapbook, Tony. Sorry.

Lots of girly stuff in this post guys, but there you go.

The 14k gold bracelet. All of us received a sterling silver one two with not as many charms.
The back of the crown says 1967 "500" festival queen. I lost it in the parking lot of an Indy restaurant in the 70's and it was returned to me! Good Hoosiers!
