Jan, Thank you for sharing so much including new pictures that have not been seen before! It's great to have you at the site. Hearing the continuing 67 Indy story from and entirely different and refreshing view will be great. This will be one of the best threads on the site! No questions from me, not for now anyway. Just want to sit back and absorb this for now. Many thanks again for all your contributions now and back in 67.. Steve

Kevin, if it should ever happen that the new camaro would be named the IMS pace car would'nt it be great for GM to do some promotion campaign with Jan? One of the photos of her in the car in 1967 and then again in 2010...Wow!

Was this when you were ready or finished to drive around the track with the Borg Warner Trophy? Before you came here the best part of this picture to us was the proof that the cars came without seatbelt bolt covers tom @ camaropacecars.com ( remove the space between m,@,c)

Jan. How fast was this car going? I for one would have had my feet seatbelted to the floor at anything over 40 mph You know: next time you go to the track, the second floor houses the Trackside Photo Shop. The shop has very helpful people that will show you all the old books and you can find all the pictures they have of yourself etc and they will make very good reprints for you straight from the negatives.... Thats where most of these came from tom @ camaropacecars.com ( remove the space between m,@,c)

Here's a tough one.. Can you ballpark how many of the Camaros were actually in the Festival Parade? We have lots of Parade footage but don't know exactly how many were used in it. Do you think just 40 odd or were there a ton of them like 80? You were on the float..I think we have 8MM movie footage of that tom @ camaropacecars.com ( remove the space between m,@,c)

Pat, Excellent idea! But how about they have the 1967, 1969, and 2010 cars and queens there as the 2010 was designed off the 1969 car, although they should have choose the 67'... Jan or it is Janice, Welcome to our site! Its awesome to have someone so important here that was right in the middle of everything!!! Wow!!! We're really thrilled to have you join us here and look forward to sharing any pictures and stories of the 67 festivities.
<Queen's 33> |
Tony! I did not notice the number 33 on the snapshot with "old Harry" until this post!! No, I'm afraid Randy didn't have a scrapbook. Since the local newspaper article he has been calling himself "The King!" He's enjoying the attention, I'll tell you. The Indy is not a big deal in Nebraska. The article made it one. Geoff, although all the princesses had numbers--there are 33 as you know--I don't think they corresponded to car numbers since the queen was the only one who received the loan of the car. And no, I no longer have contact with any of the princesses although I did have for several years with Vicki. I recognize Fran's face, but didn't get to know her. No worries about the article, Tom--that's minor stuff. Tony misspelled my maiden name as Cruise once, you know. I think he thought I was Tom's mother. Tom, thank you for the photos! I'd never seen some of them! I do wish I could have met you at the race! And I wish I had known about the Track Side photo shop. We went to the race with my sister who lives in Carmel and walked several miles to get to the track. It was a different entrance for sure! What fun it was to be in the caravan into the race in '67 with all the stars. We went to some VIP room once there and yes, I got to meet all the stars! I wish I had pics of Michael Landon!(I bet the girls all carry cameras now) I do remember "Hoss" picking up a heavy caption's car with one hand and lifting it high overhead to a different spot. And Michael hitting the bar. Gosh, he was handsome. Hot! as my granddaughters would say. The pace car must not have been going too fast in that shot going around the track. Don't remember, but wow was that fun! We waited for ages in infield before going onto track. One guy stuck his bare arm in my face, handed me a pen and wanted me to sign it. I did! Those were days of submission, I tell ya! I missed the queen going around the track this year. Did she? You asked about timing of photo where I'm wearing the princess outfit and sitting in the car. That wasn't race day and I'm not sure when it was. I know one day we went to the track for a photo shoot--probably that day. I don't remember time trials that day. But that was one day I saw quite a bit of the drivers and their personalities. The parade was a blast! No, I don't remember how many pace cars were in the parade. Each car driver was in one, and all the stars. I would imagine also each director? The drivers and the queen and court mingled with children from Riley Chidren's hospital? (in a grassy location) before the parade. I loved watching the children with the drivers--amazing adoration! I think the stars may have as well, but don't remember. I thought our float was incredible! the back of it looked like a ballgown train. And Vicki sat close to me! Pat, you're a baby! 1985! I was in the class of 1969. Missed my graduation--was in Panama! I thought Tony might be wrong about the interest. You all have given this old gal and old gals (the cars) quite a boost. Thanks for the memories!

My God!!! This is the best idea Pat!!!!! If there was a way to make it happen we should try to bring it to their attention!!!! GM these days isn't like the GM of old... Missing things such as the reintroduction of the Camaro on it's 40th Birthday proved it to me!! I pray that they can "GET IT RIGHT" this time!

Thank you Phil!! It means a lot to me to help bring to us all what I feel is lost on most car sites like ours!! It really has to be said!!!... In true CamaroPaceCars.com fashion.... The credit really doesn't go to me.... It really goes to Bill, Tom and Jan! If it wasn't for the system that we have in place we might of missed a chance with THE QUEEN! I first asked Jan to join us a little over two years ago! It wasn't quite right for her to join us then..... It amazes me how the old saying seems to fit here...... timing is everything!..... It was!..It was time to drop her a line the other day and pick up where we left off a couple of years back.... It was great to hear her flash back to a different time and place...and better yet, to know that, in some ways, I helped her look back at a time in her life that she seemed to have almost forgot. And still yet the best!!!..... To see her return home to where this connection all started over 41 years ago!
