Hi everyone,

First of all I must give Tony a public thank you. Because of his phone call to me a couple of years ago, I've had a renewal of interest myself in my "queenly" experiences. Thank you, Tony!

Randy and I returned this year to Indy 500 for the first time in 41 years! The local paper got wind of it and did a story. That was fun.

Our middle son (we have three) took his family on a road trip last summer, went to the museum, and brought me a model pace car.

And I've started to rejuvenate my scrapbook which was crumbling--looked sadder than that sweet car if possible!

Answers to your questions:

No special ceremony when I received the car. My princess number was 33, and Tony tells me that was my car number. Unfortunately I don't remember anything about the car number. The luggage rack I think must have been added later. I don't remember it. The "matching" luggage I received was RED. That was the way a set of luggage was described -- as matching.

My number as a princess was 33, and Tony tells me that corresponded to my car. I don't remember that. I was loaned the car for two months, so I didn't sell her. I had first right of refusal and could have purchased her for under $2000, but I couldn't afford her. The $1000 scholarship I received practically paid for my senior year though! Pictures of the once lovely lady break my heart. Does she know who she is and what pleasure she gave me? :-)

I'm have sent Tony several photos and am sending more. I will post some myself and I'm sure he will as well. Thanks for your welcome and interest!

By the way, I am 61, married 41 years! have three sons, and 11 grandchildren. The first 9 were girls!

Randy and me at this year's race

Hi Jan,
Great picture of you and your husband. I have a question for you.
What were the responsibilities of a Pace Car Queen during and after the Indy 500 Race? SmilerThanks.

Tom, I didn't do much after the race was over. The festival had plans for me to attend the Rose Bowl parade and a few other things, but I was married in December after the race and that made me ineligible for those events. Randy was facing being drafted and sent to Viet Nam and I had purchased a velvet wedding gown for a winter wedding, so we went ahead with our plans. I had not known about any other responsibilities after the race and had been open about my impending wedding; no one said a thing about it. The festival associates must have been as shocked as I was that I was selected! :-)

Jan!!

Great picture of you and Randy...Looks like you had some smokin seats! Smiler

Tom!

There is no doubt that Jan had #33....We have dozens of pictures of her in it or around it!

Plus!!
I have never seen any vintage pictures of the car with the rack so it's real unlikely the rack was put on when Jan had it!
Here is a great shot Jan sent me just the other night...note #33

Note the Key Tag!

It's different from the Red one we have seen!

If the picture shows up that Randy was taking that day....It might show a better image!

Hey Jan!!

Any chance Randy has a Scrap Book too? Maybe that image is in it!

Jan - WOW - Thanks for joining us sickos. Anything as irrelevant as you may think may be an important missing link in the 67 Pace Car mystery. We welcome anything you may be able to contibute. One question if I may - If you were Queen Contestant # 33 and had car # 33 , were the other contestants also given matching car numbers during the contest before the judging? Thanks for sharing those amazing pics. first Are you still in touch with any of the other Queen contestants? Sorry I know , I lied it was two questions Big Grin Cheers

This is the best thread ever! Its not technical per usual but personal.. Its great Smiler

Jan: Next month an article about us is coming out in Muscle Car Review magazine.. unless it didn't make it to print there is a part about you and the car.. and sadly the luggage rack Roll Eyes And I think after I saw the final draft it was too late and it went to press calling you Janet ( My mistake )..... UGH confused I think we were too rushed with it and I for one was hyper-focusing on the technical aspects of the article... When you read it you'll see that your car was one of the few that recieved Goodyear tires.. Long story but you'll see when the article comes out!
I pulled all my pics with you or other pageant contestants. I'll scan and post them as soon as my boss leaves Wink

Wow Jan, fantastic that you can share your experiences with us! Thank you.
If you didn't know there are a number of vintage photos linked from the main '67 page.

http://www.camaropacecars.com/photos.htm

A few years ago I worked with one of the princesses that year. First name is Fran, don't recall here maiden name though. I had my pace car a work one day and she also has fond memories of those days! She in one of the vintage photos.
