John, that would be great to have the radio broadcast! Thank you, and a warm hello to the Viet Nam vets. I remember listening to the race on radio from Panama in 1969!

And we have a son who was born in 1969!

500 Festival Parade film footage research conclusion.

An independent company by the name of Sports Network, Inc. filmed the parade and fed it to national networks for live broadcast. The broadcast was sponsered by Burger Chef Inc. based in Indianapolis. Sports Network, Inc. was sold to Huges Tool in 1968 "Howard Huges" as part of his Hughes Television Network "HTN". At some point in the mid 1980's the company becomes defunct and the trail for archives grows cold.

I followed the Burger Chef connection and through the Indianapolis Historical Society was able to find a film collection that included parade footage from the festival included in a Burger Chef corporate "short film". It is not full length parade footage. It does however show the queen on her float, and 67 IPC's carrying the Bonanza actors, the general and his wife, drivers Clark, Andretti, Foyt etc. The footage does not give any clear detail of car #'s or any other conclusive details we would have liked. However, it is a nice historical insight for the event and time period. I also found some balloon race footage that is interesting. It shows several support vehicles but none of the actual camaro IPC's. there is a shot of a 14" redline tire/wheel leaning against the pit wall in one shot.

The historical society was kind enough to transfer the film to DVD and is now available to those who wish to visit the society to view or it can be ordered for your own collection at a fee.

Did anyone ever get onto that company which wanted $$$ for the films they had which had the numbers onthe bottom of them or something vaguely like that? I posted the company details a long time ago and from memory they had at least two films which I dont think we had seen.
