Anybody here going to the Camaro Nationals 7/13-7/15?

Had a fantastic experience last year*, meeting Bill B., also Ed W. from Vancouver. (*except for transport!)

There was a promo sent out in March discussing a Pace Car Reunion? Not heard anything about it since? ...i've contacted Karl Scheffy seeking more info?

Already received reply from Karl:

copy & paste:

"Each year we pick a few models to highlight and try to get a larger group together.

This year we did survivors - there will be about 8 survivors in the other room….and Pace cars. In each room, the pace cars will be parked together if at all possible….we can mix classes, and out side we will also offer to park all the pace cars together.

It is neat to see a bunch of them next to each other. There is also a participant award for their choice of pace car in the entire show. - in and out.

Last time we did it about 14 years ago, a bunch of them posed of the photo below. If you look closely the five in the photo are all ACTUAL race day Pace Cars. Note the flags and the light bars. That photo will never likely be ever be taken again.

I will be there at least on Friday, the hotel was full for Friday night, so I got Thursday night only. Staying over Friday night is up in the air depending on if I can get a hotel close by.

Dan Bishop with his L-78 car (very nice). Bow Tie (1000-pt) class (year 1). Taking a back seat, so the car can be the star...

Charley's Time Machine (it takes me back to 1976)... who needs a delorean? (Bow Tie 1000 pt class, 2nd year).

All on pins & needles... Lots of critique from the judges! (but no results yet). Afterwards discussed blue carpet at length, with KevinK (one of the Bow Tie judges).

More to follow very soon! Plus a couple '69's in the next room (not had time to see them yet).

Nice row of 67's. Neat to see Gary's car complete. Love the Pacecar magnets for the glove box. How did everyone do with judging?

David, thanks. My own experience this (second) trip was much more favorable. I'm thrilled to share the news my car scored 981 for a Gold Award in Bow Tie class. Considering an automatic -15 for non-original motor, we lost only 4 points on other issues. Not sure exactly what these were (though I have some ideas). Scoring sheets haven't been released yet.

I'll leave it for Gary & Dan to address any feedback they may have.

I will note there seemed a lot of discussion around certain items, now discussed in the new Judging Manual, that were OK last year. Two such items were air filter elements, and carpet trim around the seat mounting bolts.

I'm not sure (yet) whether I (or others) lost points on these... just saying there was much discussion.

Congrats to the three of you on your showings. I have seen and to some extent followed Gary's car from early on, and followed Charlie's posts. Anyone familiar with the site knows these guys put a ton of work into not just the appearance of the finished car, but the homework looking for correct parts and when needed correct aftermarket parts. Years of hard work. Nice to see 3 together.

Adding another photo. Drone photo is 'borrowed' from the galleries on the Camaro Nationals website. I'm in the gray shirt standing behind & between car at bottom (mine) and middle (Danno's)...

Re-reading old posts... Realized i was still waiting for results; at time of last update! Adding this info. in case someone might find it helpful...??

2023 scoring: Net -19 (981/1000)

TAGS & CODES:
-15 non-original motor ('MY' & 'N' coded; s/b 'L' & 'MW')

BODY & PAINT:
-4 Paint detail (scratched door jambs & edges; imperfections)
-1 RH hood high
-3 Cleanliness (bumpers -1, valence -1, quarters -1)

INTERIOR:
-1 Carpet s/b under firewall pad (DANG! i thought we fixed this!!)

BONUS:
+5 Fire Extinguisher

It looks like they used my 2022 scoring as a starting point & just checked off things that got fixed. So I'll recap that too (more to follow)...

I was expecting to get dinged (but was not); for a few new learnings that came up conversationally amongst the commotion. Maybe some of these were Legends vs Bow Tie differences? Or maybe; new reference items THIS year that weren't held against me, because they weren't cited LAST year? Don't know... maybe Danno and/or Gary may have additional insights? One such example being new air cleaner repro (improved quality) that was talked about, I expected to get gigged for, but was not??
