That was the theory, you'd get more static/interference. Also for the Camaro AM got the 3 piece manual telescoping antenna (front or rear), if you had the AM/FM you had a fixed single piece mast antenna (front only). Oddly you could get the rear mounted 3-piece telecoping antenna on the Firebird with the AM/FM so apparently it did work.
