Rich Fields of the CRG suggests a 11th or 12th? BB car that was made early in the BB run 06C, but for some reason didn't ship till early July

This is completely fascinating!
I have never heard this before but it does confirm the numbers...the COPO Code numbers!!! Everyone knows!!
NUMBERS DON'T LIE!!!

There is one last piece to this Canadian mystery!!

Tony,

Lets contact Rich Fields and/or CRG on this! He'll respond as he's previously responded to me on other topics...

I very much believe the story that he gave it to his maid.. Maybe that wasn't the only thing he was giving " the maid"

Going with that theory, he probably had a maid in several cities. Which one got the car? Wink

Mike,

The 12th (last) VIN 124677N238642 is quite interesting.... We need to track down this car!!!

And does the GM paperwork show 11 or 12 BB cars??? Is this last one included or are some of the paperwork or sections of that order missing???

As an aside (Dawn's 06C C-4 VIN ending 7440) is nested between BB cars 10 and 11. And the other black nose "pesky" 06C C-1 4N BB VIN ending 8090 car I'm trying to track down fits between BB cars 11 and 12. Any significance, probably not, but its interesting... Wink

Rick,
Does 7440 and 8090 both have the 732-z interiors? You're doing some good number crunching.

Suppose 732-Y is also a candidate also. That would be real nice.

Yes, they're both custom interior RS/SS's (ours a C-4 and the other a C-1) having the "R" 732-Z interiors or I wouldn't have even brought them up here. Too bad they aren't 0- cars huh?

Not Imported to Canada, but could have been driven over the border like I used to do, 2 hrs to Toronto and 3 hrs to Mosport from Niagara Falls or Tonawanda (GM's Engine Plant) NY area. The shot from Detroit through Canada also isn't that bad....

Possibly someone at GM (US/State side) was supporting our Canadian friends at either Mosport, the presentation of AJ's car ???, Expo 67, or the Can-Am Cherokees??? Wink

Rick... Start a " help me grasp the black stripe possibilities" thread Wink

You have so much to ask and offer...I vote: keep it confined to a thread we can all get our heads around.. It'll help all including our many guests to understand the possibilities and probabilities of the black stripers...

Start with Tony's findings and lets start tracking these... Threads last 3 years now.. make a good one.. like a mini registry..

Go boy

Tom,

So how about we consider adding a topic for "possible dealer replica-replica/non-blue stripe cars"?

We do have some dealer replica cars/owners here on our site that aren't "-" coded.

Its a tad controversial or "pesky", but an area where people are looking for proof/facts of there existance... This should be the site that dives into this issue rather then others...

We should also have something for "Other pacers" were the Can-Am Cherokee guys can talk. And perhaps we'll find some of those other track pacers that have been previously discussed and elluded to......

Perhaps its too soon to consider opening up more topic areas...

If we come up with enough information to support the existance of Dealer replica-replicas or Black-nose cars then it might make sense...

But I'm thinking an "Other 67 Pacers" area for the Can-Am Cherokees is reasonable based on the amount of articles and information surfacing lately... And at least one of the 2+ cars still exists!

Rick,

I have long supported providing recognition to the other cars that Chevrolet produced that resembled the Pace cars throughout '67 for obvious reasons.

I greatly support Tom's take on how to tackle this issue - and I see no one better than you to get it started.

Yea, I plan to be at Carlisle, but no swatter!!

Tony,

I'll work at getting through to Rich Fields this week. I think I have his email.

Oh... before I talk to him please fill me in on what exactly what we do know about that 12th car.

On a seperate note, those stations (6 and 10) sound familar as we used to listen to Toronto TV all the time when I lived in Lewiston.

I know what your thinking.... Contact those TV networks and ask for that old 67 Mosport footage. Yep, their would probably be some of those pacers in the beginning festivites!

David??? Looks like a fun/worthwhile project...

Here's a string on the 67 Canadian GP pacers over at .net from Hawaiiancamaro back in 2004.

67 Mosport Pictures at .net

Here's what Jeff Chlupso(Hawaiiancamaro) said in the string....

"Thought some of you would like to see some pics taken by a young man of 16 (not me) way back when. Little History of the pics From Tony who took them:

Quote:
Thankyou again. These cars were paraded on the track to celebrate Canada's Centennial Year (100) in 1967 at Mosport, Ontario for the Canadian Grand Prix. Yes it was an awesome site not only to see these new Camaros's but to be so close to Grand Prix cars. One race before the main race also had a couple of Ford Cobras which really strikes a nerve for me. From my recollection the Camaros were white and blue( as these were the identifying colours for Most American racing teams. The flags were mounted up front and not at the back as seen on most Indy Pace Cars. Iam glade to share these photos as I know its pretty hard to find historical pictures to help identify some of these Camaros. I've also got some photos of my 1970 Chevelle LS6 ( one of the first of 5 delivered to Ontario). I purchased that car instead of a 1969 Red / Black 4spd COPO Camaro ( which is still here in Ontario and probably undiscovered ). I can still recall how fast a "sleeper" it was, but the LS6 was the new "King Sleeper" on the block. You really got respect then!!!"

The pictures aren't there anymore, but he sent them to me a few weeks ago. I'll show them next...

and here's the Other one showing the lead BB Camaro pacer with a brand new 68 corvette/mako shark and 67 Corvette Stingray leading the way... Do we see 11 or 12 Camaro pacers here???

We should contact Jeff Chlupso (Hawaiiancamaro) over at .net and see if he can put us in contact with the 57 yr old gentlemen (he was 16 in 1967 and attended the race) who provided him with these pictures as perhaps there are more pics and some information.

Just received this response to my string from Zedder over at .net on the 12th BB pacer.

Very Interesting! I responded back to Mark...

Zedder's response:

"Regarding the VIN range N237512 to N238642,
these were shipped to Canada on 6/23. The first was built on 6/19, and the second on 6/20. [Note however that there was the 12th car that was shipped 7/6, even though it was built 6/16.]

Best wishes,

Rich Fields,
Coordinator, CRG"

In an effort to save the super sleuths out there some time...the "12th" "Festival Car" - as in "Centennial Festival" (Mosport didn't use Pace Cars for the Indy Series until the '70's) mentioned above was purchased from a used car lot in Toronto in 1973 and was stolen from the owner's car port in the late '70's and has not been recovered.

That Corvette in the photo does look like the Mako Shark show/concept car. Is there any knowledge of this car being at the GM Pavillion at the Expo 67 Worlds Fair?

Anyone else notice in Rick's 2nd photo, the second car does not have any flags, but in the photo above all 11 cars are sporting 2 flags? Wonder what happened, and what part of the track this was taken on. Defintely looks like a different turn. Every piece of the puzzle brings more questions...
