Good Morning... Its the Hugney Bros. Marty & Jeff.. racer

I'll keep the story short for now. The car has been in Michigan for years and years getting restored..For whatever reasons the car is in need a some backpeddaling and a few re-dos as well as final assembly and performance valuations ( road tests and systems checks )

The boys have had this car for a very long time and its not far away from standing tall again. Its an O-1 4 speed car. Many have seen it on its visits to Carlisle PA in various stages of restoration

I will be posting regularly as the work starts. the good news is that this thread will be educational for all as the car has a few classic issues that most will benefit from watching unfold. It will help me to keep my skills sharp until I start my own car in a few years so its a win-win. I just need to clean my deck of other obligations before I can really get rocking on it

Stay Tuned

Cheers

Looking forward to a fun, productive winter on this baby. As Tom mentioned, it has been in the family a long time. Jeff purchased this pacer on July 4, 1989. Wow, time flies. Just to clarify, this is Jeff's car, not mine, I just happen to be single and he is married with 4 kids so I helped out with the project heavily during the 2000's. We have had challenges finding the proper restoration shop....but now the car is in the best hands on the planet regarding 67 IPCs. Simply put, Tom is DA MAN!

About the car: The car is the latest 0-1 car on the registry. Built first week of May: 05A. You guys correct me if I'm wrong here as I have not kept up with the registry for some years now. Tony & Tom can likely expand upon their interpretation of these late batch 0-1 cars. The car was found in North Carolina in the late 1980's sitting outside; the convertible top was badly torn, and the car was weathering. We have some great pictures from the day Jeff purchased the car in Christiansburg, VA. The most interesting thing we found was the original rear-end was still in the car, but the end of the axle tubes had been modified to disc brakes...very interesting. I have lots of pictures if anyone is interested. Not sure why the rear-end was converted to disc brakes, but we can have fun theorizing....

Throughout this thread, Tom, Jeff, and I will discuss various topics as they come up. Specifically, the challenges we have encountered in the past, present, and yet to be solved.

Marty ,

I thought you guys had this sucker finished.

I am interested to find out more about the rear discs which were fitted on the car and any other stories you can shed on the car...

Somehow the cars middle history needs to be figures out.. the latest 0-1 and to be a 4 speed and to have been sent to Michigan and to have way before its time 4 wheel discs added.. Not a swapped out thing but ADDED afterwards opens many possibilities for this particular ride..

I'm excited to get rolling on it. Geoff the car does look near finished but as you'll see because its a Pacecar it deserves much better than to be simply finished.. It needs to be better than most just like Pacecars are Wink
