Oh don't even get me started... 78's gonna be my opus.. This cars a warm up Nearly every single thing I've done to this car I can do better next time around.....

Normally I get lucky with stuff like this because I buy lots of new and use proven old.. BUT.. The Gods are against me again with the electric lights.. Every relay, circuit, switch, diode and motor has been checked, changed, swapped out and double checked again.. yet the drivers side won't function.. The passenger side works great.. The motor closes and then continued to stay on even after the limit switch is contacted.. I can get the motor to stop by pressing the outer limit switch with my finger? Also: the motor will not close the door.. it always wants to keep trying to open it further..( grinding away) No its not as simple as the switch as I have changed that with two others and checked that the lower brown wire has voltage.. it does successfully relay the hot voltage to the outer switch once actuated.. its a bizarre situation that doesn't follow any diagnostic troubleshooting guides I have.. I called my buddie Donny at Factory Fit ( American Auto Wire ) and even he is lost. anyone have any insight?

When ya figure it out let me know! Mine open fine but will not close.About 5 years ago they were not closing and and the way to Watkins we stopped for breakfast, damn things closed that entire day several times! Aint done it since.Mine acts like the switch that tells it to change direction is not working but I replaced all of them.I really dont think its a short becuase it has never blown a fuse!Tom, do you have the GM article on trouble shooting these? If not I will dig it up for you. Duh Weave
The harness to core support ground goes to bare steel. the ground behind the battery to bare steel. The little ground loops on the limit switches go to the bracket scraped to bare steel and the switch is screwed to the core support via chased clean threads. The threads that hold the headlamp brackets and the relay bracket etc ect all bare steel with star washers or what have you... I think I took care of ground.. plus the motor won't stop running..the probelm isn't a non-working motor its more that the motor won't reverse direction.

Tom, do you have a schematic of the headlite motor wiring you could post? Being able to see how the system is wired could help others not familiar with the car understand how it should operate and possibily give ideas on what to look for.
I only see three possible scenarios for the headlight door problem. Bad relay, bad switch or miswired. More likely than not the relays are fine but if you have a problem with one I have dozen or so NOS relays you can use (they are the later ones which have the wrong cap but are NOS Delco relays none the less. The problem sounds more like it is a matter of a miswire or bad limit switch. If the door is hitting the switch but not depressing it far enough even though it is tested and working it still will not work if not fully depressed. The odds of a bad limit switch are small at best, these things are built to last and unless they get a crack and water in them will last a very very long time. If you try pushing the door open a little further ans it works then it is a simple adjustment. If it is a miswire then teh motor can keep running and will not close the door either as the polarity is never being reversed as the switch is not changing its state. I will take a look here, I know I made a CAD drawing of the entire 67 wiring front to back with all the various options, just don;t know which computer it is on at the moment.
Tom just to clarify, the door opens fine when the lights are turned on, but when you turn off the lights the pass door closes but motor doesn't stop running, correct? Well the when the limit switches are contacted they become open-circuit and interupt motor current. So my guess without looking at the schematic is a mis-wire somewhere in the door closed switch circuit. The door open limit switch has to close for the motor to get current so that is why the motor stops when you press it IF I recall correctly. I'll have to look at my schematic at home. Sometimes being an electronic technician has it's advantages.

Tom, give a call to Robert Dinardi (the headlight motor rebuilder), he may have some helping ideas. For the record you are further along than I am with mine. Yours looks nice, can't wait to see it.
