OK Tom,

You just tackled my next quest. Door and Qtr glass. How is the quality and fit after I'm quite sure a lengthily install? Would you use the repro stuff for # 3 or be patient and track down Original GM correctly dated GM Glass?

I almost forgot to ask. How is the repro grill moldings and who was it you guys discussed as the pro to make this an original looking assembly? I have a GM grill with old orig moldings that needs freshened up or a new set all together for a crisp fresh look.

Do those repo's have the little rivets on the Fisher tag like the original? If so, I might have to look into getting some of those myself.

Yes, they have the riveted Fisher tag. They are much more polished than the NOS sill plates. If you were building a museum car, you would use the NOS, but if you want to make a striking statement when you open the door, and don't want to worry when someone on the passenger side drags their shoe getting in, then by all means use the repros.

The new glass is fine for #3, as a matter of fact you just can't beat that new glass look so save the grief of finding original, plus there are glass packages out there that are REAL GOOD right now.
The sills I have are basic repros and I don't think have the rivet look.. I don't care right now as I'm already scuffing them with the on-off bull and I plan to use the car so they are doomed from the get go... But they shine sweet Wink

The rivets I have bought from time to time and have been touted as originals.. Gary likes them so thats plenty good for me... These are not rivets in the sense of hardware store style.. these are squash rivets that need a special tool Tom.

The Classic headquarters mouldings are just fine. What I did do and ma glad is test fit them to the header where I needed to elongate a few holes for a smooth install after paint. dremel tool action, no biggie. I taped up the molding and painted it green for an origianl look and of course Gary flattens out original 68 GM grills for a fee. I hear and see that Classic now makes a flat grill but have not touched one yet. With all the work accomplished here at the site, making a world class grill is now very doable

Tom. why not buy all repro and come to Carlisle and have Gary rivet the whole gig together for you Wink

I can't get out of here by then. The earliest I can leave CA is July 30.
Everything I have on the car is GM and in decent shape. The trim is GM, but apart. Cliff said it needs polished and touched up. I'll have pics later this evening and will post them under the # 3 update thread. I don't want to take from your thread.

Well... you guys are putting me to shame with your ambition. I guess that it is time to do something (ie. get off my fat arse). I have been easing into it a few hours at a time. I am finding that I can no longer do the ten to twelve hours straight thing.

Yes, they are NOS GM convertible quarters. Eeker I had to give away my first born for them. He was cool with it though. LOL The right side was for a '68 and I had to do a little surgery on it. I am having fun right now, because I am not overdoing it.

Pulled an almost all nighter last night and have finished painting the hood, wiper valance, lower valance and fender extensions... ( I left the fenders and header til next time so I could concentrate on the blue stripe with less pressure )
Anyhow... I bit the bullet and went with poor coverage on the hood edges as is seen on so many original cars.. Having some fun & hoping people can appreciate an oddball move like that Roll Eyes confused
