Chris, do you have any info on the balancer you need? I may have one. Looks great

Hi David, I know way too much about 1967 SS350 harmonic balancers now and boy do I need the right one! All 67/68 Harmonic Balancers have the timing mark aligned with the keyway regardless of engine size (for V8's). 69 and later have them out of alignment. Use the wrong one and your timing will be off (10-15 degrees). refer to picture. To make things even messier, the correct harmonic balancer for a 1967 SS350 is 3896966. The inner hub is also casting number 3896966. However, the inner hub with casting number 3896966 was used on everything 1967-up. e.g. A 67 302 (Z28) harmonic balancer is part number 3817173. It will have an inner hub of 3896966, but will have 7173 stamped on the outer ring (the counter weight). A 69 350 4bbl will have an inner hub of 3896966, but will have 7704 stamping. Corvettes used the same inner hub as well...…. The correct harmonic dampener for a 1967 SS350 will: 1) have an inner hub casting of 3896966 2) will not have a 4 digit stamping on the outer ring (counter weight) face. 3) will be have the timing mark inline with the keyway. 4) will be 8" in diameter. 5) will be 1-1/2 to 1-5/8" thick. If you have one of these, I would love to get my hands on it.h -Chris

Wow.. I think you might have solved the problem of my timing marks being off.. When my engine rebuilder put it together he had to remark it and make a not.. I had my original balancer rebuilt by The Damper Dudes.. maybe they didn't know this? tom @ camaropacecars.com ( remove the space between m,@,c)

Chris, Is all of your front end sheet metal original or NOS? Did you align everything prior to paint?

Quarters and trunk pan was repaired using repo panels. The entire nose and doors are used parts that I restored. The hood is a 67 hood, not the later design with drains. The car was blocked as a unit prior to dismantling for paint. You can find more detail on my website: http://www.relicrecyclery.com/...age8/CamaroIPC_8.htm Chris Many "If I can't fix it, I will fix it so no one can !" Avid home restorer of classic cars.

Tom and Chris or anyone else who cares to comment, Not trying to hijack your thread!!! I am at a point where I need some advice. My car has a NOS header panel, valance and left front fender. Everything else is original. It was not test fitted before paint. I am regretting this. Now the car, shot in lacquer, is sitting and waiting to go back together. It has been in storage since the paint. I don't know if I have the skills or the help to get this car assembled. What do I do now???

Why not start your own thread and spend a little time getting the fender on and we can help guide you through the adjustment.. Get lots of masking tape and you'll be fine tom @ camaropacecars.com ( remove the space between m,@,c)
