Next steps are to finalize welting vinyl selections and get interior ordered. It is mind-boggling how different lighting makes the various blues all light up differently...

Has any advancements been made on finally getting it right?

Hello. I have had some recent conversations and new info. about interior soft parts which at this point leave me cautiously optimistic. If details come together as I am hoping for, I am anxious to move forward quickly for my own reasons.

At one point some folks had expressed interest in a group order. Not sure if there was ever a headcount established? If anyone interested in more details please PM me with contact info. Please be patient for reply as I have not been keeping current on Email lately.
========================================

Hello again from 'whatever happened to...?' land.

Never received any replies-- not one -- to my note above. I am working on a custom door panel order I am hoping to see happen in the VERY near future. Making one last call to see if any interest-- Right now it's just me and my restoration guy.

Regards all...

Charlie,

Unfortunately the site is much slower nowadays... confused Maybe cause there are not that many cars being restored or who knows?

I would be interested to know more about what you are lining up etc.

I got your PM yesterday and happy to take your reply by PM. Cheers

Geoff; a fair enough question... i have had several conversations with a highly-regarded supplier, who seems willing to entertain the notion of a custom door panel order (using my carpet). But I don't want to screw this up by blathering TMI on the Internet before it's appropriate.

A suggestion I had read on this site somewhere/sometime; was to find out how many people might be interested in a special order (Which a manufacturer's enquiring mind might want to know). I recall somebody started on this once, but I didn't recall ever seeing any conclusions. So I put out my own feeler (now almost a year ago). At this point I can't wait any longer. So due to the underwhelming response I am moving forward ASAP on my own.

The intent was to give back to the hobby in this small way-- not personal gain. I hope this answers any questions in the meantime until I can get a comfort level posting more details. Thanks-Charley

Hello again and sorry for the mystery in my last few posts. The time has finally come to let the cat out of the bag! Yesterday & today, finally took delivery of a COMPLETE NEW INTERIOR for my car! From sun visors to boot cover—with everything in between (except, of course the carpet which we already have).

If you have been following this thread (and/or: "67 PC Carpet" at https://camaropacecars.com/eve/...733/m/8881013556/p/2 )-- you have seen the ongoing discussion on trying to get the carpet 'just right'. Although I've been laying low for way too long now, I’m trying in earnest to get back in the ballgame!

Before this saga begins-- first please let me acknowledge the painstaking work done previously by KevinK & Mike Rossi ( https://camaropacecars.com/eve/...733/m/9101051836/p/4 ) which served both as a starting point and as an inspiration.

When my train derailed (early 2014)... I was in process of corresponding with Tom M. and with Mike Rossi, on some points of fine detail I was trying to pin down. Though I had obtained numerous vinyl samples from several suppliers; only one of these really stood out (that being from Al Knoch Interiors of El Paso TX). Mike (also of El Paso) had had previous discussions with Knoch on the subject of carpet/vinyl, etc. ( https://camaropacecars.com/eve/...0019733/m/3151073056 ).

Picking back up again where I left off in 2014-- I started by speaking to Knoch's about tracking down that vinyl sample I liked. Also I enquired: Might they be willing to entertain a custom order for door panels?-- if I provided my own carpet? They were receptive to the custom order idea. But, due to concerns with color aging, they advised we would have to start all over again on the vinyl. Instead of endlessly mailing samples back & forth (again)-- I decided it might be easier & faster to simply visit and see the samples myself. The folks at Knoch’s were again receptive to allowing my visit, so I began planning on it. I further asked about availability of other interior parts not listed in their catalog, such as rear armrest and rear side panel covers, more-- They asked for pictures and soon replied confirming they could produce these items.

Eventually I was able to carve out a few travel days... coordinated dates with Knoch... and the trip was on!

Because of Mike Rossi's previous work in this area, I was hopeful he could help participate in the color matching. Thankfully; Mike's schedule aligned with my travel plans... and the stars continued to come into alignment.

The folks at Knoch's were SUPER friendly and helpful. We (Mike & I) settled into the office to spread out our samples. The carpet was a slam dunk-- Both Mike & I, along with Knoch's folks, agreed on the match. I was cautiously hopeful the vinyl welting selection would go equally well.

Mike had a vinyl sample that he liked, from prior visits. Also I had the aforementioned Knoch sample I liked, that they needed to revalidate.

We put all the cards on the table (so to speak)... And as it so happened-- Mike's sample & mine were THE SAME MATERIAL-- with BOTH also matching a SECOND sample Mike obtained in the factory-- AND ALL MATCHING THE VINYL FROM MY DOOR PANEL!!!

Mike also had a carpet & vinyl swatch from Tom's car #78. This too, matched with the findings above (thought I had a picture of this, but it apparently did not take--arrgh).
Mike made an interesting discovery from a closer look at the original vinyl samples. Both my vinyl (LA car) and Tom's (Norwood)-- had the same watermarking on the back side.
