OK here it comes again. Need some help again with info. and/or references...

Met yesterday with John to review progress at the one-year mark (wow how time flies). A Couple items I took back to check out with my Pace Car friends...

1) Anyone know anyone who rebuilds carburetors and approximate cost? Back in December I scored a 7027211 carburetor dated April 1967 off Ebay, but it's in need of a complete rebuild.

2) Any recommendations on supplier for convertible top (and approx. coost)? John is thinking for a car like this he wants to use something a step or two above what he would use if quality/originality was less of an issue?

And; 3) Interior -- similar questions-- any recommendations for a quality product, right colors, etc.? I recall there was a lot of discussion about interior products, seats, carpeting, etc. but I don't recall if this was ever resolved or what was the outcome?

THANKS... Charley

hey Charley-

Dave had his carb sent out to someone in ohio and the thing was all rebuilt and recolored and it looks phenmonal. I don't believe it was super expensive but not super cheap either I will get with him on that name.

the top we got was from al knoch interiors in texas. From all we have heard they make about the best interior stuff and definatly the best top on the market

Camaro Specialties in NY did my interior. If you call and ask for Bob, tell him what you are doing, he will get you the correct items and color. He is currently doing his own pacer as well.

Dave; do you recall how much that carb rebuild ended up costing? And what kind of shape was the carb in to begin with? The V.M.C. website lists a base price but has a lengthy list of a-la-carte add-ons... hard to guess what the real cost might be???

I've been quiet the last couple weeks biding my time for negotiations to work their way through the process on my engine deal. It now looks like this is a done deal (complicated 3-way swap!) and finally I got to meet with our engine builder yesterday & see "my" engine parts!! This is the last major missing link-- with an engine now in the works, I am now hopeful we may be able to get the car on the road later this year!!

Package deal starts with a #3902406 396" block dated C-21-7 T0404MY, matching correct heads & Rochester Quadrajet intake manifold, and also a #3856284 water pump; with everything dated within a 2 week window. Also original chrome valve covers too but they are in pretty bad shape.

Consequently now I have some questions on engine tech & detailing. I've studied many pictures found elsewhere on the site...

1) Dave/Jeb- Just wondering; did you build your engine with the stock L35 cam? (that's what I have in mind). Also what did you do about pistons? I think the OEM pistons were 10.25:1, but to run on today's pump gas they are recommending the "new" stock replacements which reduce the compression to somewhere around 9.5:1. Wondering what approach you took??

2) Engine builder pointed out that many people have the major components painted separately, then bolt together with contrasting color bolt heads, exposed contrasting gaskets, 'naked' brass freeze plugs, etc., for detail & aesthetics. This had never occurred to me, had always assumed engine should be painted alltogether. Dave/Jeb; noticed on your car you took the 'alltogether' approach with the heads, intake, water pump & water outlet all painted assembled?

Are the exhaust manifolds supposed to get painted??? I'd think that would last about 20 minutes before the paint burned off???

Jeb/Dave; I noticed in your pictures you left the exhaust manifolds natural color which seems to me more logical?

Anyone with any inputs/suggestions please ring in-- although most of my questions were directed to Jeb & Dave; certainly I'd be grateful for any inputs... THANKS/charley
