Chevy introduces a new Camaro, the car is HOT, it is the Indy 500 pace car with little publicity or support. A few people get Camaro Festival cars that few outside our little world know about.

Let's just say next year the Camaro is not the Indy 500 pace car but then a Convertible is introduced in 2011, is the pace car, replica’s are made, advertising is all over the place ...

The first year pace car is again left to wonder "why me?".

Bill,
Looks like you hit the nail squarely on the head with that assessment. I had not thought of everything falling into place like that. Eeker

Good points... I think that in 1967 the festival cars were essentially clones of the pace car with the exception of the drivetrains. So the effort was kind-of an "official -un-official" thing within Chevrolet and therefore run internally like the later COPO High performance programs were.

IMO... Mystery = disireability.

The 2009 IPC was done more like the 1997 BY cars where no replica's were provided to the public, but the festival cars were - with differing options in 1997 and differing cosmetics in 2009. Cheers

Except for the convertible part .... this will now happen given the announcement of 2010 Indy 500 replicas and the same darn colors " oh you mean the orange and white one?" Mad
