Pretty cool!
Your car was in the order for Indy and was probably at Indy for the race!
It's not on the VIN list, http://www.camaros.org/69pacer.shtml, but the numbers say it should have been there.

Thanks Kurt, there are a lot of missing numbers for the Indy Race, but I think my Camaro is pretty cool either way. Hope to have it done next year when I get back.

Kurt, didn't realize what Feb. 4th 1969 meant in here until I read the report. That is the same day I turned 22.Thanks for your hard work on all of this.

Tobey,

I apologize, I missed your question about the wheels until now. The correct color Argent silver. The color you need to search for is dull aluminum in a spray can. The backs of the rim’s are painted black satin with the face of the rim being painted the silver color. Allow the overspray to drift though the holes onto the black. This is correct procedure for a correct wheel restoration. I hope this helps.

Thanks, a friend told me the same thing, but it is better to hear it twice. Getting ready to head South for a while, and get started on this car next spring.

New question. My mirrors on the Z11 have round mirrors, and one is cracked. Shouldn't they be rectangular? If so where is the best place to buy original equipment parts?

Had to have my right fender removed last week to change out my heater core. Glad I haven't painted the car yet.A friend told me I should go ahead, and change out my blower motor while I have everything removed. What is everyones opinion on this. I want to try to keep as much of it as original as I can, but I wouldn't want to remove all of this again. Thanks to all for your imput.

I have never had to change out a blower motor ever on any restoration of a Camaro yet. Repairing a heater core is standard, but the motors have never failed..

Well to bring everyone up to date on my 69 Z11. They picked up the car 5-4-2012. They had the interior taken out on 5-7-2012, and by Friday 5-11-2012 they had the paint off, and a couple of place to reweld, and the motor, and transmission out to paint. They put etching primer on, and today Saturday they had the car in primer. Now they are ready to block sand, and change out the windshield because it had scratches on it from the last body job from 1982.I have the protecto-plate, and owners manual that came with the car.It was dated 3-6-69. Bill of sale was 8-15-69, and he got plates 8-20-69. This was the same guy until 1979. My neighbor bought it off of him then. I bought it off of my neighbor in 2010.I have pictures, but just need to figure out how to post them.

Tom, I sent you the pictures of my 69 Z11. Here is the information about the first owner. Harry R. Leckrone R.R. # 3 Whitestown In. SN 124679N610121 3-6-69 I have his protecto plate. He got the car in 8-15-69, and got plates on 8-20-69. Car cost $4469.00 back then. My neighbor bought it off of him in 1979, and restored it in 1982. I bought it off of him in 2010 with 800 miles since it was restored. It doesn't have the original block, but has all the internal parts. It had a mild cam put in at rebuild. I'm having the whole car torn down, and blasted. Hope to get it back this fall, or next year. I just want the car done right.I' still trying to figure out what happen to the car from 3-6-69, and 8-15-69. Is this normal for pace cars back then?

Mine was sold in January 1970. Don't have the POP in front of me for the exact date but remember that it was January in winter. For a convertible ! I have been told that it was not unusual for the Pace Cars to be sold much later because they were not that popular with the public. Higher cost, unusual paint scheme and interior.

Steve,

I received your pictures and will work on getting you a new thread showing your resto this weekend. I'll post up the most important pics to save on site space.

Brad,

You are absolutely correct. The funky paint combo back then wasn't very popular to the public eye. Now the trend has switched and everybody wants one.
