Is there a way to verify a Norwood body versus a LOS body?

N in the VIN and NOR on the trim tag. Trim tag on LA cars has LOS on it.

I added a few photos showing the white color on the body...

And one shot showing the upper cowl repaired, you can see where it was spliced in.

I was wondering if there were any differences that could be found like welds or other body items. I know on 1969's they painted the cowl different when Z strips were done.

Chris. If we are not able to get an honest story and some clear and precise photos then this whole thread is moot and you will default as the person whom is hiding something.
What I think you are failing to grasp is that the general opinion is that the VIN and the Trim tag are legit Chevy made units.. If the car is a quasi rebody then embrace the issues and let someone take ownership who can restore the car and enjoy it with the wound that can never be healed.. Its ok.. it is what it is man just come to terms with it hammer

Thanks everyone. I was seriously looking to move on this car till Tom told me about the vin problems. You all have saved me a huge heartache and problem. I may be wrong, but isn't changing vin on a car a crime?

I went to see the car ages ago (years). I asked the owner if it was ok to remove the cowl panel to look at the hidden VIN. He let me do so and I found the body to be a NOR car with LA tags. I pointed it out to him, he had no idea and had bought it that way. I believe this to be true. I told him to contact who he bought it from and either give him the car back for the amount he paid for it, or sort it out. He apparently contacted previos owner and was able to find the original cowl. Suggests here he did change it back, but I have yet to see pictures to confirm it.

No need to make any promises or fool around with putty.

Buy or rent a snap on scope camera, shoot some digital photos and post them.

Show us the intact vin plate from the donor car and then all should be on the up and up.

Does the car have it original trans/rear end?

What owner history have you done on this car?

If its a real pace car, it would be a crying shame to dismiss it as a clone/fake.

I agree that WAY more disclosure needs to be..

This poor cars saga will not end until the owner fesses up all he really knows and starts posting lots of very clear no nonsense pictures of the hidden VIN's.. For the money I'd have that right side front wheel house out of the car tonight and the heater box off to show the vin #. I would have the cowl panel off lickity split as well... But it would seem that none of this is going to happen

Too bad because all of us absolutely want this car to step out of the shadows and simply be what it is... and for 29K that might be very well worth it

This is sort of changing the subject indirectly.

So let's say all the numbers have been transferred over from the original body to this "new convertible body", what would you call it?
A Re-bodied Pace Car? Or is it still an original Pace Car?

How much sheet metal has to be replace before it is not original anymore or before it is called a re-body? Just curious!

Yes.. We've had this discussion and opinions vary wildly. I can assure you this car will remain on our registry for all eternity as a RE-BODIED CAR along with the others.

BUT.. nobody doubts the validity of the trim and vin tags.. there is no reason why a fellow wouldn't restore this car as a pacecar and enjoy it for many years to come.. especially with a price tag comparable to non Pacers

There is hope here and a way out

Tom,
Yes, you are absolutely right! There is no reason a person couldn't enjoy this Pacer just as much as the next one. As long as the truth of it's past is out in the open, a person can be proud to own such a great piece of history and lineage. It's keeping one more ALIVE! yea
