Once people read it and word of mouth spreads it will be an instant classic and I bet will prompt other people to write books about other plants across the country ( Unitl they realize how hard of a job it is to do what you've done Wink)

Phil ,

Congratulations on what looks like a fantastic book.

I too would like to order a signed copy. More than happy for you or some one in our group to keep hold of it till we all get together next time to save the hassle of the international post.

What are your thoughts regarding this?

I believe you still have my email?

This book is a great way to start off a new year for sure. Something new in something old..It gets my car ego churning again for parts and stories you get while hunting for parts. There will be more to come for sure.

So I am the post office getting boxes to ship the signed copies out (to those who had requested to have the book signed)

Working the counter is a couple of late 50's aged folks.
a guy and a gal. The guy spends more than 10 minutes in the back looking for boxes.

While we are waiting..The woman eventually gets around to asking me about the book and a standard conversation is completed where I tell her about an automotive factory in Norwood Ohio and GM. She nods but maintains a vacant expression as she does not understand or remember the plant.

The guy looking for the boxes finally brings me what he has and both my wife and I thank him and leave. We are out in the parking lot and getting in the car.

Next thing I see the guy from the counter running towards me yelling to STOP.

I think now what? - Was I supposed to pay or something? The guy yells "she said Norwood"-"have you written a book on Norwood?"

I reply yes so the postal worker Guy askes me to return to the Office - which I do- and he proceds to tell me about a high school field trip to the plant in 1978-that he just cannot get out of his head to this day.

Trans-Am's and Z-28's at Road and Roll.... the lines the body shop on and on this guy goes.

Next he writes me a check on the spot and thanks me. I am so stunned I tell him I will deliver his book to him.

Still pinching myself--I mean the guy was emotional about this whole thing. Big Grin

Happy to help him out. Cheers

Hey Phil,
That was a great story! There is something that hits a car a guy hard when the words "Norwood" or "Camaro" is spoken. Images and feelings come back in waves. You will do great selling this book Phil. Just wait until until word really gets around.:-) The post office will be your second home! LOL

Oh yes the drivers had the best jobs...plenty of stories about guys battling over who got to drive the fast cars to the OK lot or later for rail load out. A 1969 Firebird took a swan dive from the third level when the train car pulled away just a bit early... racer

I just got the book 20 minutes ago. Its the best book I ever held in my hands.. I am already shocked at the new info and pictures.. There seems to be a great many things that contradict what others have said about production.. This is just amazing and a true masterpiece of historical fact finding. Thank you Phil! Thank you very much first

Well I guess I now know why I haven't gotten mine yet. I mailed a M.O. on 1/25/2013 to the address listed on the order page: (well I thought I did anyway see edit below)

CHEV-STAR LLC
1200 North Bridge Street Suite F #207
Chillicothe OH 45601

Go it back today "return to sender, no such number, unable to forward."

So what am I missing here?

EDIT: Just noticed I left the "F" off after Suite. Are the really THAT picky? I'll try again, sigh Frowner

Jeff and I went to the USCC show in June 1987 just prior to the plant closing. Show attendees got to tour the plant...it was so cool. The plant tour was great. I still recall the production lines, the paint booths, etc. Cameras were not allowed. At the show, they had two yellow car carriers full of Red IROC Z28s. I have the show catalog and pictures in storage. Here is a scan of the show dash plaque.

Marty,

They did a cool Promo 87 Camaro for that event I think. Do you have one by chance?
