Total Production Number of the 1993 Pace Car
I bought a new book that contains production totals for the 1993 through 1997 Camaros. The book list 653 Pace Cars built that year. It's my understanding this figure comes from searching the B5A RPO on CompNine website. I looked in the Camaro White Book and it shows 633 vehicles built, but does not say if this number includes the 20 Canadian cars. If I remember right, the Camaro Enthusiast Magazine article written by Ken Moorhead and Matt Murphy Jr. listed 645 cars. I went back to check the article and found there were an additional 8 cars mentioned as having been for Chevrolet's internal use that appeared not to be included in the 645 total. So, is the correct total production 653?

I should have included a link to the book in case someone else was interested.

Interesting, I'm going to check my listing of the build numbers. I recall 125 for Indy, 500 for dealers and 20 for Canada. One more was built for Perkens as a 6 speed.

Bill, the article I've referred to was the January 1994 issue of Camaro Enthusiast. If you don't have it let me know and I'll scan it for you. The article gives the VIN sequences for 5 of the 8 cars and they don't show up in the 645 US/Canadian count. They are listed as the 3 actual Pace Cars and 5 prototype display cars. 3 of the display cars don't have VINs listed.

This has got me wondering if CompNine could be used to find out how many long and short bed 1993 Pace Trucks were built. I don't think I ever heard anyone say.

This could explain Larry's car. which doesn't appear on any VIN list I've seen.

If you're referring to Larry Miller's car, his VIN is shown in the article as #2 of the US production totals and Track Car #78.

A little note here. Around 1994 my wife and I seen a pace car for sale in a small town about 150 miles+ from where I live. We stopped and talked to the sales man ( it was not an actual dealer lt just was a satellite office). It was car #82 from the number on the window. The salesman said the car was not originally a track car but was pulled for some reason to do tracK duty. The VIN is/was 2G1FP22P2P2109265.

Michael, that is really interesting. The article actually show this as a dealer car that was used at the track. It shows the Festival Car driver as "Comanche". The US/Canadian production number was 362 and just US product number was 342.

645 was the number provided by GM back in 1993. I doubt that they included internal vehicles so the totals could be higher.
