Never seen an Indy plate like this before. Anyone know what they were used for?

I think maybe these are used on the safety vehicles perhaps? I have seen plates like these, but not sure how all are used.

I would like to know. When I look at photos of festival trucks I see no plates.


Anyone have photos of the plates they used at the 1993 "new" Camaro V/6 - Z/28 ride and drive cars they had at Dan Young Chevy for the Pace Car reuion?

Wow Im speechless something from 93 that Lee has not seen before.I bet you have seen at least two before but you just did not notice.Check out the 93 memoribilia page closely and check out my pictures in the 93 owners page even more closely.They have always been there you just have not noticed I guess.Not very rare and they do show up every now and then.

I have seen these before in fact I have a few, just not sure what they were used on. I have asked about them before and know one seems to remember what they used them on.

Lee I got the story on these a long time ago from somebody.Possibly Howard???The coloured plates were on order for 93 and there was some problem with them possibly not being ready in time for the race.Just in case they did not make it the plain white plates were made up as a back up.The coloured plates ended up arriving just in time and so the white plates were never used at Indy.They are just a piece of 93 Indy lore now.This is the story I got somewhere,not sure if it is true or not but sounds like a reasonable explination.

That explaination sounds familiar to me as well, not sure where I heard it either. It may also have been a situation that could have happened in other years as well.
