David, don't forget to check the POP for a selling dealer. It could have been Bob Baker or another dealer who bought it. Bob Baker still has dealerships in California. I talked with him a little about the pace cars and he said he didn't remember much about the details. He did give me his service managers name. Bob Baker is now Blossom Chevrolet and this guy, Jim Rutlidge still works there part time! I called him up and asked the usual questions. He also didn't recall the specifics but did recall that he was "positive" the award car given to Mario went through Bob Baker. He said he did the title work himself! Jim said I could stop by sometime and talk but with my busy schedule I've not accomplished this yet.

I was at a car show this weekend and have missed one of the most exciting weekends this site has seen Roll Eyes
David.. I cannot express to you how happy and excited I am about a person like yourself coming forward with the best batch of documentation for a single car we have ever seen. 1967 car #55 has great docs and history too.. but this car with this GM stuff is shocking. I closed my eyes for a moment just to take the moment to realize the significance of what you've done for us...

Being that you are a newbie, I find myself compelled to explain to you that a lot of this hobby and the world in general keeps things like this close to the vest. We even have " for profit " people gleening the info off this site and holding other valuable info back that they do not even legally own in hopes of turning such things into cash..

For your participation in this and for what you've done for all the 69 guys. I THANK YOU. You have single handedly show these many pacecar lovers & owners what this HOBBY is all about..

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME Big Grin

Pat, Tom, and Tony,

Believe me, I have pondered and had pondered for a while about publically releasing some of this information, however, my initial reaction to the existing "VIN LIST" was one of disbelief. The selfish side of my personality was to stay hush-hush, but the hobbyist side of me ultimately won over and I felt like a committed group of loyal Pace Car enthusiasts could and would benefit from knowing that these sorts of documents were scripted when these cars were assigned. I also understand that some unscrupulous indivduals might attempt to benefit from these postings. All I can say, is that I felt at the time, and still feel, that the positives would outway any negatives. Again, these are very special pieces of automotive art and automotive history and we should all work together to attempt to unravel their true history. I thank everyone for their kind words and feel proud to, not only be a Z11 owner, but to, also, be able to assist in the piecing together of these great cars mysterious histories. Wink

David

What a pile of good info! I get to thinkin about what is still out there yet to be found. You know we have a good percentage of festival cars accounted for in '67 so I'm thinkin the perecentage has to be close to the same for '69 festival cars. Probably a good number of Festival Z11's in garages and guys don't even know what they have. But on the other hand with so many more Z11's I think the '69 guys(me included) might be a little more savy on paying attention to these cars. The hunt continues..................

David, I to want to thank you for sharing your treasure with us, I was starting to think that all this information was lost forever. But I'm still going to be optimistic that someone at GM will stumble across a hidden box with the rest of the information pertaining to our Pace Cars. I would also love to know who was assigned to my car during that month in '69. I think these documents are out there so we just need to keep digging. I think you've started a new spark for our hobby. Thanks again Buddy...

BIG BIG WOW! Finally! Eeker

At least now you guys have an idea of what you are looking for. There are some parallels to later years of different Pace Car marks, but the differences are really interesting in the way Chevrolet handeled it's programs. This had to be the same way the 67s were handeled.....

And I hope you are wrong, that the scum bags involved in Chevrolets today will profit in some manner from the exploitation of this information that this site compiles.

I think we all know who they are and I don't need to name them. Just "lock them out" I say. And publicize anything fraudulent that they do.

There is one thing they can't do. Fake the dirt that time can only deposit producing that unmistakable patina. I don't know how you fake the chain of owner's from the speedway either.

The one thing about this site that is irreplaceable, it's the non-negotiable integrity of it's members. Rare for people in today's world. I can't think of another like it, in dealing with this mark.

Don't screw that up. This is priceless. You guys truly are leaders in the way things should be done.

Bob!

Boy are you right about this group of guys! Smiler

Leave it to the owners and the true pure heart of a car guy, to allow this to be shared!

Let's see!!

Can holding these same very kind of Assignments for 14 years be justified?

I think not!

Regardless of the tired old story which has now become an excuse, a friend that feels he needs to put his two cents in on an unfair attack, THE FACT REMAINS, it's time to let it go, Chevrolet's and the current owners intellectual property is being held hostage for what,..some sort of game of chicken between two parties? Was one person wronged so bad that they have become blind to what they are now doing to others? 14 years is just too long and way too unhealthy!

Tech: I for one am not nearly as nervous about people making clones or faking paperwork as I am about our missing the boat with research and findings when we know and have been told numerous times from the source that info exists that can open a well spring of leads for us to follow..

EXAMPLE: I'm someday handed an assignment sheet for my car that shows who had and drove my car at the race. I call this person only to find out that he/she passed away in 2007. Then I'm told that this person loved to talk and really had the time of their lives in 67. Well now I'm screwed and history is lost forever. But the family pulls out the old photo albums for me and there is my car sitting in their driveway in 1967 with the family all around it...The single picture opens the door for literally 1000 questions... 900 of which could have only been answered by the dead guy.. The family is relatively clueless to the details... Frowner Mad

I Feel the more we find on the cars now..the less likely it is that anyone will attempt a deception EXAMPLE 69 ZL1
EXAMPLE 67 Z28

I understand. And that same thought runs through my head also.

Just like the case of Jack Bell that Tony has told me about.

Jack signed two of those letters on this 69 Z11.

People think I'm nuts in the way I move so fast to find out answers in my mark. I know that I do it just because of the senario you have laid out, is in the back of my mind. (I have a problem in my mark with people making so many things up that aren't true. It has me chasing my tail a lot to run it against the facts. Which wastes valuable time that could be better spent contacting people that were at ground zero.)

Tony and I refer to those Old Guys as "Rat Packers". They smoked non filtered, drank the hard stuff like fish, loved their rare red meat still moving and put tons of butter on everything. Not quite the key to a long life. But what you did back then.
