On my LA car the "350" is not on the gas cap & grill emblem. Ive been told that this was done to simulate the actual pace car.Another story I was told that the cars (not just pace cars) that were built in that time frame didnt have the 350.How many owners with original pace cars are missing the 350 and how may have the 350 .

My understanding of the 350 symbol is that when the 396 engine came out they dropped the 350. They went with SS only and used those emblems on both 396 and 350 cars. Think March was when the 396 came out and once the SS 350 emblems had run out they went with the SS emblems. It was part cost savings, part end of year run decision.

Mike,
Here is a picture of my Pacer gas cap. No 350. I think the horn button did have the 350. The grille emblem does not have the 350 either to the best of my knowledge.

I cannot find a picture of my Pacer grille emblem. I think it is "SS" only though.

Guys look at the AIM. It clearly shows the dates the grille emblem and gas cap were changed to SS only. It coincides with the release of the 396. Horn button on the 350 cars is "SS 350"

On the Impala and wood wheel they are the cap that normally goes with those wheels.

Correct, my Impala type wheel (option N30 I think) has the blue chev bowtie and no SS insignia.

You are correct, N30 "Deluxe" wheel. Something we should possibly update on our spreadsheet. On the questionnaire and spreadsheet we refer to them as the "Impala" (optional N30 Deluxe), and "Deluxe" (upgraded standard wheel [chrome horn spokes]that came with Z87 Custom interior). To simplify we call the N30 Deluxe wheel the "Impala" wheel, and the Z87 Custom wheel "Deluxe." Can be a bit misleading and confusing. But then what would we call them? Standard Z87 and N30 Deluxe? Also had the optional N34 (simulated) Walnut wheel as a possibility.

My steering wheel has just the Camaro center cap. I don't think that they made an "SS" center cap in 1967. All of the 396 cars would have either the deluxe wheel or as mine is, a standard Camaro emblem.

Doug... I've seen this wheel a million times with the SS badge.. I always had a sneaking suspicion that each owner saw this horn cap and thought " Oh! somebody switched my real SS button for this thing " and then they went out and got an SS to put on.. when the truth might well be that the cap your showing was what landed on the cars from the get go?

I'm still on the fence though about maybe they came both ways?
