I am new to this board. I have a 1993 Indy Pace Car Camaro and have just purchased a 1993 Silverado Pace Truck to go with it. I have not had much luck finding info on these trucks as far as production numbers, how many were used at the track and how to tell a track use vehicle. Does anyone on here know much about them or where I can get info?

I have some but it tells me they are too big when I try to upload any of them so I will have to figure out how to make them work.

Bill, I have sent you my photos, if you can do anything with them feel free to post them up.

I have been trying to research these trucks and so far I am getting lots of conflicting info and noting I have found so far is official info from Chevrolet. I have seen post in various locations that say production of these ranged anywhere from 1500 to 4800. I think the lower end is more likely. I have always liked them and think they make a great complement to the 93 Pace Cars. Back in 93 I do not think they were really very popular at the dealers and many ended up as just normal work pickups so I really think there are probably relatively few of them in good condition left.

I did learn a little this morning from what I would consider and "official" source. In the May 1993 Chevrolet Dealer Pro Magagazine there is a 1993 Pace Car article on page 20. In that article it mentions that there will only be approximately 650 Pace Car Camaros built(actually ended up with 645), but that EVERY Chevrolet dealer could order Pace Trucks just by submitting an order that came with their Indy sales promotion planning guide. There were only available in fleetside and came in both long and short bed versions. (I have mainly seen short bed versions over the years) They were to be built between March and May of 1993 only according to the article. Now if I can find someone who knows just how many they actually produced!

I got some more good info this evening from John Lenhart in Davenport, Florida that JimJ told me to contact. He still has his 93 Pace Truck which he purchased new in 1993! He was a wealth of info! According to his info there were a total of 1534 of the trucks produced. The ones that were used at the track that were the short bed trucks did not have tachs, did not have sliding rear windows, had 60 series tires, had the 454 style Chevy truck wheels, and had a larger than normal dual exhaust system. His was a track truck and had a window sticker price of $21,850 making it just about the same price as a 1993 Pace Car Camaro! He said the dealer that had it was originally asking $10,000 over sticker for the truck when it arrived. He said the previous info I mentioned about all dealers being able to order one was correct, but that it turned out that the production of the trucks was so difficult with the two tone paint and decals that they ended up canceling most of the orders and the trucks were distributed like the cars based on sales production. They were suppose to be built in a few months and the few they built ended up taking about 6 months to complete. There were very few long bed units built. He is going to get me some more of the info he has on them and once I see all that I will try to post more fun facts!

He was real curious about how I came to find him. I could not tell him much since I do not know you myself. He is apparently not into the internet so did not have access to this site to check it out.

A few of years ago there was a gentleman who had a '93 IPC truck,'93 IPC, and open car trailer for sale as a team in the "Car Corral" at SUPER CHEVY Indy. Had also seen ads on the internet for the same team. Wonder if he ever sold them, together, or seperate.

This could possibly be the same truck. I found this truck about 3 years ago on line. At that time owner had just sold his 93 pace car and still had the truck and trailer for sale. I worked on a deal with him to buy both, but we did not ever get a deal worked out. He then sold the trailer by itself. He got ill after that and then passed away about a year ago. His son then got the truck. He kept it for about a year and then contacted me about selling the truck since he said he did not really have the time to enjoy it and his dad had told him to contact me if he wanted to sell it since he prefered it went to someone with a pace car to go with it.

Very well could be! Time line about right and in a mid-west location for an easy trip to Indy. I'm pretty sure the last time he/they were there was in '03 when I had my '84 SS Monte in the Car Corral for sale. I recall he'd been trying to sell the team there for a least a couple of years so maybe he decided to break up the set to get them sold.

I sold my wifes car, #494, to a person in PA that lives just south of Carlisle. He also has a Pace Truck and said that he will be attending Carlisle with the Pace Car in tow behind the truck. I'll contact him and see if he is still planning on attending. BTW, I will be at Carlisle this year myself. Unfortunately, without car.
