A few weeks ago I won this auction for a group of Indy items, (below). The one I mostly wanted was the 12" by 18" wall sign for my garage. I won the auction for only $3.58 plus postage. Pretty great buy considering all the items included.

I was surprised to find out that the postcard, the item I cared the least about getting in the package, is a very mint unused one of the track in 1993, (second picture). I had thought it was a current day postcard.

I was wondering, from all of you that have been there, or live in Indiana. Has the track changed much since 1993? Or is this image possibly the same image still used on Indy track postcards?

WOW!!...You really got a great deal on all that stuff!! CONGRATS! The wall sign is REALLY COOL!!...As far as I know the track hasn't changed much since 1993. I was there a couple years ago to attend a car show and it's virtually the same. I think they resurfaced the track a while back but I think that's about it.

I'm sure no expert, but didn't they change Gasoline Alley? And they've replaced the Flag Lot with ???

Actually, there could have been a lot of changes and they weren't noticed because the place is so big you just don't see it all at one time. confused

They changed the offices around 93. Changed the Pagoda in 99. Added the F1 course in 2000. Up graded the Pits and suits at the same time. Added the Moto GP turns three years ago. Tore down the hotel and asked Tony George to stand down.

I can tell you have a lot of time in at the track Lee. Always interesting to read, and see, all the pictures of activities and events you participate in.

Thanks to all of you who are giving input on the track. I really appreciate it. Some day I hope to see it for myself. Smiler

That's really cool Bill! Thanks for taking the time to alter the postcard picture with indicators. It gives a great visual perspective of where some of the changes have occurred since 1993.

WOW....I never realized there were so many changes!!...It is a really cool place to visit. Believe it or not, I live about 70 miles away from the track but have NEVER attended an actual race there. I've been to several Camaro events there however and even driven my Camaros around the track 3 or 4 times. That was REALLY COOL!!!...IPC93, if ya ever get up in my neck of the woods, look me up and maybe we can go up together!

Also the track surface itself was repaved, don't remeber the exact year and then diamond cut which the F1 cars just "loved". Roll Eyes

In 2008 didn't they do something to the track surface that caused a lot problems with tires in the NASCAR race? The cars had trouble getting ten or fifteen laps on a set of tires if I'm remembering correctly.

I think they also redid the gold course in the late 90's with a Pete Dye design. Bill could we look at the changes there as well.... roll

A lot more of the small buildings out side of the track are also now gone and gravel parking lots. The entire area is getting a much needed make over.

Now if they would only sell Condos in one of the Turns to live in like in Atlanta!
