I almost bought that car the first time around (actually the second time because the first high bidder didn't have the money so he listed it again), but got outbid at the last minute. I ended up buying #19 locally for less $$ and it only has 2450 miles on it (but doesn't have all of the cool memorabilia that the other car has- yet).
Congratulations on the purchase of #19. I was the high bidder when you bought it. I had a gut feeling I should have hit the buy it now when I first saw it. I feel better knowing it went to somebody who appreciates what it is and will take care of it.
Welcome to the site. Car #28 was a one owner car bought by this dealer back in early May of this year. That auction was the first time that I had seen it offered for sale. As for a decent asking price, that is something that will differ from person to person. I always look at the condition and mileage of the car then compare those two things to what the appropriate book price is. This will give a person a starting point in determining where to begin to place a value on the car. How much value in the fact that the car was used at Indy is always going to be subjective. I just consider it a little more frosting on the cake.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. I did find a thread somewhere started by the original owner and saw what he sold it for and now the dealer is asking about $1500 more than that. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons between buying this car and an LE convert six speed. I love the originality, history and low serial number that go with the pace car, but I'd love to have a six speed, too. Anyone else throw some pros or cons in that I didn't think of? Thanks!
