I’ve finally got my PC metal work finished and have a preliminary scheduled to have it taken to the painters shop in early March (hooray! For me!)
You know finding a reasonable, competent painter can be a pain to say the least, but I have seen examples of his work and he’s quite talented.
I’ve told him (painter) I’m a member of this site and how informative it is with all of the research and discussion that takes place here, and that I would try to get some input from other members, pertaining to what products colors, codes, mixes he should use.
Not trying to build show car nor will this be a daily driver just hopefully a good looking big toy.
I have very little knowledge concerning the painting process. So if you have any advice or suggestion that you could share so that I may share with my painter it would be greatly appreciated.
Ex, what should I use for white exterior Ermine White,PPG base coat clear coat?
For the interior Blue, nose stripe, wheels?

Couple things... the first thing is to ask this painter WHAT his product of choice is. I would recommend working in the system he is used to unless it is crap.

YOU need to decide if your painting this car apart or together and if its getting wet sanded and buffed. If its gonna be single stage or base-clear, if you burying the nose stripe or putting it on top like GM. etc

Talk with the man... get a feel for what he's all about and then turn the tables and ask US about specific things..from there I believe you will get good solid advice

The paint system takes a back seat to the body prep.. body work is 90 odd percent of the end result.. If the lines of the car are not sweet and if there are body work waves you can NOT hide these things.. a poor actual paint job can at least be redone or buffed out.. BODYWORK! thats where the time, reward and sadly the money are

Mostly base / clear , but said he has sprayed almost every type dupont, napa emron, lacquer, enamel, water based? So whatever I wanted. I think mostly he uses PPG since they are a sponsor at his other employers.

Tom as far as bodywork yes I remember these threads, I wish I had just a bit of your know how and skills with filer and paint, but all I am comfortable doing is metal work. The painter did inspect and liked my lines and fitment. (He is to apply the filler and block) Like I told him I can cut fit and weld very well, but have no experience with filler or paint.

He came by my place and we did talk. I wanted to see if I had done all I could or if there was other items I could complete before I turned it over to him. I asked if I should install the front, he said no he would seam seal everything, paint floor then trunk, paint the pieces and after all was installed paint again, asked him if I should go ahead and strip the old paint off the rest of deck lid or doors but once striped I had no way of applying primer/sealer. That all I had read said should be apply because you didn’t want to leave bare. He said just let him strip and prepare.
His full time position is with the INDY car team so this is “side work”

So I guess I can say PPG Ermine White, base coat clear coat and whatever filer/ primers work with that system (I’m sure he knows)

So any suggestions on the Blue?

The blue for the nose is Marina

Your situation sounds strong. Go with PPG and Phil will give you the code

I will take a picture of the can of interior paint I used.. It was a crazy session of paint jibber jab that landed this color on me. It has been flattened and is a one stage spray. If things get sour I can sent a sample for the paint shop to scan. I am VERY happy with the color and the percent of gloss for this interior paint

The hot ticket in my mind is this... lay on the Bondo and rough block it all in being sure nothing is high... soak the whole panel in this spray style Bondo called........ Give me a minute and I'll think of it..

This stuff goes on thick thick thick and sands pissa.. its a 2 part so it never shrinks...you block the panel out and then prime it for final sanding... the bomb

Maybe Standox feather fill? I'll find out soon. brain fart Roll Eyes

This stuff doesn't shrink up.. I know because I didn't use it on my nose and you can see micro sand scratched now 2 years later but not in the rear...

Stay tuned for pix

Looks like you've cut those lines in good. I see that your body man will strip, prime, block and paint..

I bet it comes out good because you seem the type to micro manage all the aspects

Here is what I used for the Interior ( can to the right) and the paint I used ( gallon ).. "C" code

Mike Rossi had some lacquer for the body pinstripe..I could not use it because I'm base- clear but I had my striper match it best he could by mixing his old school " One Shot " paints.. Came out just fine in my opinion and lets face it.. Its gotta closely match the Marina Blue nose stripe.. I had him hand stripe it so it looks more original. By the way. There are no other 67 Camaros that I know of that were striped with any color other than white or black.. These cars are special. The possible exception were the red nose striped Ice Capades cars that may have been pinstriped in red.. but I've never seen a survivor or a picture

I like being special racer

looking good! I'd start a huge picture book file on the car from start to finish. It's the kind of thing you only get one chance to do.

Cool! well then here's a couple before I started cutting, but you can't really see how bad the trunk and wheel wells are.
