Not really sure. Book refers to Rochester 4MV so I would assume they were Rochester built.

got a couple quick air cleaner questions

big block 396 air cleaner is gloss black-- is a basecoat clearcoat super shiny gloss black too much? same with the heater box? Would a spray bomb gloss black be better?

one more question for now. the air cleaner service inst. decal. where exactly does that go? under the lid directly on the underside of the engine id sticker?

thanks

Jeb/Dave,

Take a good read through my #3 update under the lounge section. Alot of your questions can be answered from my million questions asked. Here's a lik to an very good carb builder.

I've rounded everything up but the correct shift lever coming out of the trans. The guy that is painting my Z11 said I could have the power glide parts he had. (Thanks Andy) I also just bought a 202 A7 Carb this afternoon that is being sent off for rebuild and coloring. Check out: http://www.carbjunkys.biz/

or:

Jim sounds like a great guy and restores them for $299. He says his work is much better than Holley. He replaces everything instead of only the faulty parts needing replaced?

His are yes. They are tits. Mine was done by superior-carburetor-service in Tampa FL. His price has gone up but still very good. Look at the pics and judge for yourself.

Sorry, I was in Vegas for SEMA and now I am playing catch up.
I have a new PC and still do not have everything loaded.
As far as the black goes, I am not the best person to talk to. I went with about five different black finishes. The heater box and air cleaner parts got gloss black. I tried spray bombs and had horrific reults(spitting, dripping, etc.) I finally ended up spraying them with acrylic enamel and a spray gun.
Put it this way, I did not lose any points in Concours judging, the way that I did them.

Oh, I forgot....the instuctions are silkscreened underneath the lid. A decal will get burned by backfiring and such.
They would be white on a black lid.

I would imagine using base-clear black would be way too show boat but using gloss straight enamel ( single stage paint ) would be the hot ticket.. The lid and the radiator always seemed to be the glossiest stuff I've noticed in the bay. the rest has some percentage of gloss but not 100% gloss.. Its a tough one but remember each production day, each vendor, each plant and each employee made things ever so slightly different.. If your in the ballpark your good in my book..

I know that somewhere it is probably on here and I am sure that I have read it somewhere but I will ask anyway

Masking off the exhaust ports on a big block?
how much of the flattened flange gets masked off if any and left bare or is it painted with manifolds on at the factory?

probably a duh question but just want to make sure! confused
