I am curious if we can get some information going here regarding the Licence plates issued by the race track which were used. Obviously I am focused on the 67 Indy and I do believe some of us have the 69 on version. I will post a photo of my plate once I get it out. I believe mine is of the 69 on version which I purchased from Pace Car pro at Carlisle about 2003 or so. Does anyone else have any of these plates? I am interested to (1) SEE HOW MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS THERE ARE (2) SEE WHAT NUMBERS WE HAVE I believe in each period there are two plates: (1) OFFICIAL CAR 500 FESTIVAL (FESTIVAL PARADE CARS (2) OFFICIAL CAR INDIANAPOLIS 500 (SPEEDWAY GROUP OF CARS) At this stage in this post I would prefer not go down the path of the license plates used on the front or those issued by the Indy DMV. JUST THOSE ISSUED BY THE RACE TRACK AND USED ON THE REARThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Geoff Smith,

Ok I finally got out there and took a pic of the plate which I have. It does look slightly different to the one you posted Bill. I was originally told it was 69 on period , however it sure looks nothing like the one you posted Bill. Anyway here is mine Festival Car # 28.

Bill , I have posted a pic of the plate your link goes to in order to show what I believe is the difference in the two plates. To me it appears they are both from different time periods as well as a common difference between the plates of the same time period. Here is one from an "official car". These I believe were on the speedway cars (used by the Speedyway , cars towing trailers in the festival parade? and used by the editors of the news papers and magazines as well as other important people?) , rather than the 500 festival cars. I would nearly bet both lots of cars were used in the 500 festival parade. My theory is that there were more than say 50 cars used during the Indy of the year (any years for the sake of it , it doesnt matter of 67 or other years), lets just say for sake there were 100 cars used (this I dont know this for a fact).I believe we had FESTIVAL CAR FESTIVAL CAR # 1 - 50 (dont know the final number , but lets call it # 50 at this stage) AS WELL AS OFFICIAL CAR AS WELL AS OFFICIAL CAR # 1 - 50 (dont know the final number but lets call it #50 at this stage)= total of 100 cars used for the Indy 500 duties?? What do you all think?

While I think about it , I dont believe I have ever seen any of these types of plates on any 67 IPC's?? I know photos exist of the Indy DMV plates as well as the "See USA first Chevrolet" plates. Anyone got any photos which show the types above? Go on dont be shy... and I would have originally thought these plates would have been on the back of the cars not the front. My reason for this theory is that we see many photos of the "See USA first Chevrolet" as well as the "indy Zone" plates....???

I recall seeing these on cars from a lot of years Pacers.. I suppose searching each year since 68 would reap some results. I know there was no standard plate in 67 as I've stared at all the pics for years.. Many-most had the front plate bracket removed all together I'm sure per Chevy to keep the nose looking crisp and defined.. The Speedway cars had the " #1 Team " plates thats Tony remade and some of them even had different style liscense plate frames although I cannot make out what they said. tom @ camaropacecars.com ( remove the space between m,@,c)
