Not the forum for that Steve..but I had intensions on talking about it soon enough on a fresh topic.. We have all for a very long time assumed the dash pad was darker than the paint of the steel dash board because 40 years later they are! ( dash tops need to be discussed though) Well, One guy has popped up with a dash that is bright blue like the upholstry in the area that was hidden under the pillar posts ( I need to remember who and find the pic) Roll Eyes Now: more needs to be done but when you consider that the two guys with NOS dash pads ( Gary Bieler and Mike Rossi )that are painted or dyed as Chevy so often did with needed interior parts through the parts dept. you start to get a sense that maybe all of our dash pads have faded darker ( yes...many pieces actually fade darker not just lighter )because both guys dashed are closer to upholstry color ..please correct me if I'm wrong guys as I have not fully thought this through yet..

If this new theory is correct that would mean the reproduction people have had it right the whole time and we've been spinning our wheels because of the color our dashes faded to have betrayed us Mad

Remains to be seen BUT if this proves true... that would make perfect sense and prove my earlier theory that the entire gut of the car was supposed to match very close in color EXCEPT the very low area ( kicks, carpet, door carpet and belts )...

Design wise and visual appeal wise that makes perfect sense and is backed up by the fact that cars with white interiors almost always got black carpets and kick panels and seat belts etc Wink

What was the logic say white interior but the bottom bit darker or black? I would think that would be hotter with the sun beating in with the top down.I have allways wondered about that one!

dirt...and design is my guess.. certainly the kick panels get a good beating and light-bright blue would look aweful very quickly. I think Chevy designers were looking at the interior and dismissing the lower floor area as rough ( for lack of a better word ) the darker it would be the better the rest of the interior looks.. just opinion but I can visuallize those designers spending countless hours trying to get the interior to look " just right " and lets face it.. the damn interior is classic and gorgeous Cheers

Personally I think you're all wet! First of all, are you saying that my NOS pad is dyed, or painted? WTF?
Secondly, IMHO I think that the factory tried to get all of it to be bright blue, but what with painted parts, molded parts, upholstered parts, etc. there were too many variables for them to be exact and then the sun beating on a ragtop's parts did some metamorphising(sp) and changed them. Again, only MHO

The flash from the camera brightens it up somewhat.

Well here's a L-35 Auto, don't know if it will help you or not.

There is one on each side. The driver's side is a bit different and mounts to a little bracket that bolts on the exhaust manifold, not a bolted loop like the pass. side one.
