I was checking out some memorabilia and I noticed the 67 Indy Pace Car postcard which has the pacesetter promotion on the back has a festival number on the car. It looks like it is a 9....

Hover on the pic and you can enlarge it and you can see a single digit number...

Tony what you think??

I always thought that that picture, that we have seen so many times, was a design artists rendering. But looking at the typical mis-match of the RS lower mldgs (door/quarter area),it would seem that it is of an actual car. An artist certainly would'nt do that,...don't you think? Anybody know when this "advertisement" first appeared? Just wondering about when this car would have been made, that is,if it is an actual photo.

Andy ,

I agree with you as I too had assumed it was an artists rendition.

There is a checkered flag in the background , but what does the red represent?

Check out the nose colour and the trim colour , also its clearly got the festival top boot on it.

Do we have car 6 or 9 in the registry (looks like a big block car too)?

Unfortunately the size of the pic exceeds the maximum allowable to post. This is why the link is posted.

I wonder if it was a pic of a real car and then an artist did their magic?Perhaps a white rag top and they added all the pace car stuff? Had to be early in production i think, maybe before any IPC's had been built/ just an idea.

I'll look again..but I don't believe on the actual photo there is a number....
The Post card and the poster are more touched up than the actual photo.....
IMO.......... This is a mocked up Image/car
