Thought I would update some progress on old link.

Paid 1000.00 just to have the crappy orange paint stripped. John said the shop had to boil it a couple times and then some airpalne fuel to get it all off. But jeb repainted it correctly and its a sharp looking 396 now. Block stamping is still faint and not easy to see but its there.

CANT WAIT UNTIL ITS DONE. PROJECTED NUT & BOLT COMPLETE RESTRORATION? Maybe fall 2012 ??

Thats what most do... make it stellar and show it for a few years.. then sparingly drive it to shows etc... The cars worth too much to just drive and wash and leave in the driveway over night... ain't happening racer

Sapp and Jeb, I am pretty sure that those valve covers are not correct for that car. They should have weld dimples where the drippers are welded onto the inside of the covers. They also should not have the cutout for the brake booster. That was for Corvettes. IMHO Maybe Mike Rossi will chime in and confirm. Otherwise it looks great!

Sappy, Gary is right. The closest and most "original" looking reproduction big block valve cover I have seen is from Crane Corvettes. Here is the link.

Sapp.. don't give up on those white rims! I just saw one from an LA built Nov 1966 car with 22116 if Tom D is right that would mean November 22nd 1966.. which is spot on for the car.. ipso facto yours would be dated correct for your cars build as well!!!!!
