Rick this Rex Mays may factor into your line of thinking.. I think Lakin is right on the mark that 92 did the circuit...

I know somebody somehow, someway drove my car #78 for a full year and put a full 12 thousand miles on her before being sold out of Kuhn in spring of 68..with a new car warranty etc so I doublt it was ever "owned" until then... Had the tires swapped out with whitlnes and wire wheel covers I might add

I remember the USCC story about #92 being gone for a year and was bid on later in the year and the Youngs dealship won it! That car should have a trail behind it if any of them did! I would have to take a lot of time and look through the back issues but I know I have it.Any body else remember? I think it was the same story that the writer showed up and they tossed him the keys and said the car is out back, have fun with it!

The article I referred to is in the February 1983 issue of SUPER CHEVY. I'll see if I can get a scan of it.

How do you know this is from/at Rex Mays???

It says someone's name on the rear quarter Earl ???? and also ?????? Chevrolet on the hood, so I;m not sure this is a regular pacer we're looking at.

Seeing this car has mag wheel hubcaps and I can't make out the color of the nose strip, this could actually be one of the Zone's Blue Toppers, with a black nose couldn't it? These would have been the one's that Tony suggested may be available to the USAC guys after the race.

Are you sure this isn't taken from another track or race series such as the one's I've been suggesting?

What do we know for sure and not know about this car?

Don't know if this helps but there is a 1970 Pace Car Assignment Sheet. Given 3 years difference, a lot of the names should be the same. And the same order of assignments should hold. My car is #78

Boy,I remember when I saw that cover shot on that magazine! I reached for it rather quickly at the mag rack! Still have it,too. It was very informative about #92. But,it along with other info of the day,had me very confused about my car. Confused Back then it was believed that there were no dealer replica cars, and ALL O-1 coded cars were used at the speedway. For years,I even thought that maybe mine was some type of back-up car, since I'd never seen another big block one. You guys at this site have done an outstanding job of sorting through all the myths about these cars. Thanks!!! There is still a lot to learn about.

The above car was not a Blue Topper a la Zone...that's for sure.......
The Zone Blue Top cars were local Company Cars..... The Rex Mays car is this one shown above..... It was also on display at a local dealership before the race......
A bunch of Indy replicas were also seen at the Rex Mays Race..... Mostly used by the press I was told!
