Oh! Please do.. ask all you can about the people, the station and if cutomarily the radio personalities got Pacers to use.. If affirmative we can add that to the list of known people to receive them.. Helps with the big picture.. THANKS man

I suspect that someone there in the picture is the LARK cigarette representative.. that too could have been the person who got to use the car???

Ovbiously the Smirnoff people got a car as seen it the balloon race pics.. Why not the Lark people, right?

They did!

Remember the one and only Assignment list that we have for the 67 race shows all the radio and TV people let alone the Track Announcer Gill Berry.
I spoke to Gill JR. He was just of driving age when his Dad got the 67 Pacer for a week maybe two.... he had a chance to drive his first Pace Car!!!
He said his Dad got a car every year!

Gill Berry and Sid Collins went to Wilbur Shaw and with that the IMS Radio Network was started in 1952; Gill Berry was an All American football player in college; Gill Berry was the sales manage for WIBC, so was the car he drove assigned to WIBC, or to him exclusively? Just a question!

Yes Cid worked for WIBC.
Did a Google search, forgotten what a sad ending his story had.

The 1977 race would have been Sid Collins 30th year as the "Voice of the 500." But on May 2, 1977, Sid took his own life at the age of 54. His death came only two weeks after returning from the Mayo Clinic where it was diagnosed that he had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis -- Lou Gehrig's disease.

What a terrible and sad end for Sid! Frowner

Gill is no longer with us too. The Assignment says just Gill's name and then Track Announcer.

ONE LAST RACE!

I am positive if a handful of people for which I know there names were still with us, we, and every one else that loves theses cars would have almost all if not nearly all their questions completely answered!

I've made it through disc one... question: Is the recording on a loop? I seem to have heard the same broadcast twice but its a little hard to tell.. I think each day of time trials they prerecorded interviews with the drivers and replayed them? Not sure.. also: how many days of time trials were there... They claimed something like 220K of people went to see the turbine car but the next day was a bit of a wash out and few people showed up? fill me in so I can tell what I'm listening to ( Cid doesn't say during the broadcast what day it is or anything so its hard to tell )

Hey T:

How is it going? What's going on with the cds? I played my cassette tapes, and each one was different; I copied one tape to one cd; There are 2 qualifying weekends = 4 days; I don't know how many qualifying shows they did; They usually ran for 30 minutes each; The race was run for about 19 laps and then it rained out and resumed on the next day; There could be some audio they put in to compensate for the rain day; Please let me know because I will send you another copy if I have to; Thanks Tom;
