I'm the guy from Baltimore, who had the 82 IPC at Carlisle; It was great meeting you guys; Thanks again Jim H. for the festival stickers; I also own a 93 IPC as well; Anyway, I mentioned to Tom that I have all of the Indy 500 radio broadcasts for the following years: 1967,1969,1982,1993; Some of the broadcasts even have the camaro pace car commericals on the broadcasts; If anyone is interested, I'm just asking for 5 audio cassettes per broadcast; I haven't converted to cds yet, but I'm working on that, and hopefully this winter, everything will be on cd; I also trade for audio broadcasts and television broadcasts of early nascar and indy car; Again, if anyone is interested, please let me know; Thanks
As you know.. I'm hugely interested in listening to the 67 race.. where do I send the tapes!
Also: great meeting you as well.. It didn't take long for your girlfriend to confirm that your a Pacecar nut ( I know, I know you also have a Mustang ) so thats all we had to hear to welcome you aboard

I was looking on the internet after reading this post that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network was changed from WIBC(Indy) to WTHI- Tony Hulman Inc.(Terre Haute) in 1967. I know a man who is good friends with a well known radio news anchor from that time period from this station. I was told he has tons of tapes from there on reel to reel and that collecting these kinds of things is a hobby for him. It might be worth talking to him to see what he remembers about the radio broadcast and what he has in his collection.

To my knowledge, this is the broadcast taken from Indy; I even have the 1/2 hour qualifying shows; I don't know anything about WTHI, as WIBC has been involved with the speedway since 1951, the year after mutual pulled out because of sponsorship requirements; WIBC supplied everyone in 1951, with the exception of Bill Slater; In 1952, the speeway network was formed; I don't know much about reels, except that I have a friend who probably has the biggest Indy 500 audio collection around; I don't sell these races; The only thing I require is the cassette tapes sent to me with some return postage if you want; I do trade for other broadcasts, videos, and other Indy 500 items; Please let me know what you have; I don't know of anyone that has 1965, 1966, 1968, 1970, except for my contact, as they have just surfaced; I'm going to have copies of them very soon; I also know someone that has about 45 minutes of 1967 abc on kinescope; I'm trying to work a deal for it; Please send all requests to the address above; Thanks

Is this the same footage from the ABC Wide World of Sports segment on the Victory Banquet? The 1967 Festival Parade was Nationally televised for the first time, have you ever heard of anyone having the Parade footage? WE HERE ARE SEARCH LONG AND HARD FOR THESE IMAGES!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to let you know that 1967 is finished; It is complete and sounds really good; I put it on CD; I just wanted to let you know I'm going to send it out this week; If anyone else wants this audio broadcast, or 1969, 1982, or 1993 on cd, because of the camaro pace car, please send $20 to
John Kirschner 839 Middle River Rd Baltimore, MD 21220
no problem man; I'm going to send the cds out on Saturday; They sound pretty good; Thanks again for letting me park with you guys at the show; I hope we all get together next year; It's a lot of fun; Everyone says I'm crazy that I collect these cars, so it's good to be with people that relate; I might be in the market for a 67 or a 69; Please let me know of any deals; Thanks
It has shown in the past that by hanging around here often cars have come up and members wanting them have been rewarded. Good Luck with your search of another car. But beware they are addictive

I told you that you would like it; What makes it is the commercials and the qualifying stuff; I was contacted by someone to perhaps share my collection, so they can get the indy audio website up to speed; My 1969 and 1982 race is just as good; I'm awaiting a real good 1993; Please let me know if there's anything else you want; Not a problem;
No.. I've heard only 30 minutes of time trials.. Heard one Chrysler/Plymouth commercial.. The Goodyear wide boots ads are super funky! It used a take off on " These Botts Were Made For Walking" song.. I will only listen when I can give it full attention like in my truck on the way to work etc.. VERY exciting.. I mean it!

The only person that looks a little like Sid Collins is the guy on the far right; I don't think that is him though because of the way he's dressed; He was known to be a very sharp dresser all of the time, no matter where he was; He died in May 1977 at the approximate age of 50, so given what this guy looks like, I think Sid Collins was more younger looking at the time; I think he did smoke though;
That would be Sid Collins, "THE VOICE OF THE INDY 500". I don't think that's him, why would he have a badge on his belt?? Moonlighting for a Security Company!!???
What is interesting is that car looks to be from the group your car is from Tommy!
Is that #81 or #87? Either number would place in the extra group of cars that Chevrolet introduced to help make up on the shortage of cars. Numbers 78-89, these 12 cars may all be all one batch!! You have a big family there Tom!

That is a cool picture T; I think that must of been a local radio station that was set up inside the track; I'm going to be at the track in October, and what I'll do is print this out and take it with me, and see if Mr. Donald Davidson, the IMS historian will be able to recognize who is in this picture; I have yet to be able to stump him, so I'll try with this pic!
