I believe this is one of the two cars that Tim knows about!
Check out the caption on the last picture...It says the Interior was gutted but not altered! Eeker

I'm not sure what I would call that hacked console!!!
Sweet find Michael!! It's good to have you back on the boards!!!

Guys,

Do you know what happened to this car?

The interior (where it cut up on the center counsel, gauge postioning/holes, roll bar), all look very similar to the car sitting in our garage. Even though our car was originally a blue topper, the car now has what appears to be a white top that was dyed black.

Any more details on this/these 67 RS/SS Conv racers????

Michael , Thanks for posting all the great pics with the article. The idea of changing your name was one a lot of us did long ago as it became harder and harder to remember peoples names. I thank you for making this easier with you and I hope others may also realise that they can change their user name without reflecting the number of posts or any information from the earlier posts. I hope others follow your example Big Grin

I also noticed from the interior picture I have the exact same steering wheel which is an aftermarket wheel and not that common....

Michael or Tony, can we chat?

Michael,

Thanks for the nice chat! I really appreciate the information. Hopefully I can touch base with Tim Falpp and see what he knows.

I just tracked down the phone number for the original owners, Howard and Dee Ann Esping, still located in the Seattle suburbs. I'll be trying them later today!

Tony, or others anything you can share here...

He knows some racer dude that has a Pace Car.

IT NOT FOR SALE!!

But he has been slowly trying to get us the info.
Please don't contact these people until you speak to Tim.

Rick,

Tim is away on business right now. So, I am not sure that he'll get back to you.

Rick, I have always said in this forum that I knew of 2 L-78's here in the northwest. I had also mentioned before that there was one sold used by Amstrong motors (long out of business)
That means that there may be 3 or 4 L-78's from here alone
1. My L-78 (Tacoma Wa.
2. Armstrong motors L-78 (Parkland Wa.)
3.Howard and Dee Ann's L-78 ( Seattle)
4. Ken Smith's L-78 ( lake Oswego Ore.)
I wonder if any 2 of these cars are the same. excluding mine ? Roll Eyes

Upon closer inspection of the pictures, although I have the exact same aftermarket steering wheel, their are a few discrepancies. The front mounting position/location on the roll cage doesn't appear to be in the same place and the holes that are in my gloovebox appear to be a few inches off compared to where they look like they are on those pics....

Our car was repainted a slightly different shade of white over the Ermine, then blue, and then black.... This makes its very difficult to try to pick up any signs of lettering or strips....

If I was to guess at this point I'd say the cars are different, but I'll still chat with Tim and then possible the original owner.

This 0-1 pace car went from Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1967 to International Raceway Park in 1968. It's drag racing career lasted into the late 1980's and its "pace car" status was all but forgotten untill it resurfaced a couple years ago.
