Welcome to the site. Does the car still have the graphics? If it does, chances are it is the real thing. A person would have to verify the VIN to the graphics manufacturer to be able to purchase the decals, so the likelyhood of a clone should be limited.

If you were to contact Graphik Concepts about the availability of the graphics, they should be able to confirm the car from the your VIN and give you the track number. Here's a link to their website.

I found this forum about a week ago. Lots of interesting information! A good friend of mine purchased a 1999 Z28 Brickyard 400 Festival Car a while back. He put it in his garage and I never really paid much attention to it. He is now thinking about selling it, so I went over and took a good look at it. Neither of us know much about it, so I've been doing some research. I ran across an ad on eBay for someone selling one identical to my friend's, and he claims there are only 3 known to still exist. Where would one go to validate the authenticity of the car, and find all the historical information? There is a white 36 on the windshield close to the VIN, which I understand to represent the build number. I don't know how many were made, though I have seen some references to around 40 or so. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd sure appreciate it. I can provide a link to a bunch of pictures of it if anyone wants to see it.

The 36 is the number assigned to the car to allow the responsbile pace car staff to track the cars, keys, who they are assigned to ... nothing to do with the build number. I'm sure others will pipe up with questions and answers for you.

Welcome to the site. The information about these cars is really limited in the public domain, mainly because very few people have had access to it. Those of us who have followed these cars for a couple of years now, have tried to collect any information that has been released by those who were involved with the program.

I found a really interesting letter in a Ebay ad for car #8 from Scott Settlemire that listed how many cars were used for the 1999 Brickyard. Here is some what Scott said:
45 Z28s were used, all but two were FE9 (Federal) Emmission System. Of the two that weren't, one was YF5 (CA) and the other was NG1 (NY).
two SS convertibles were used.
four V6/Sport Appearance convertibles were used for administration use and were part of a promotion with Lowe's.

Howard Kirchenbauer in another post on this site, stated SS convertibles were suppose to be used that year, but because of a mixup, all but two of the cars delivered to the track were Z28's. He also said one of the SS Festival Cars used in 1999 went to the race winner.

As far as authenticating the car, Howard or Scott would probably be the only ones capable of doing this. You might try contacting Howard through the Private Messages on the site. As mentioned above, Graphik Concepts may be willing to verbally confirm the car and its track number using the VIN.

Over the last eight years, I've kept an informal registry of the Brickyard Camaros I've found. The seller of Car #8 states in his auction that only three cars still exist. I have records of a few more than that, but I don't have the VINs of all of them to be sure some are not the same car. His claim of the reason why so few survived may be true, but I've never heard anyone involved with the cars ever answering that question.

Sorry I can't give you more information, but as I said above, most records have never been available to the public.

Edit: I've gone through the spreadsheet and found I have four cars listed. They are cars #'s 8, 15, 17 and one with the track number unknown. Mike Lakin posted a friend from Indy 99 Brickyard a year or so, but I didn't keep track of the number. There was also a car from the New England states recently that was for sale. This car may be owned by the original poster of this thread, not sure. If not, that would mean another car. Plus, don't forget your friend's car. So you can see that there seems to be a good possibility that more than three cars still exist.

I found the Festival Car from New York I referred to above. The addition of this car now gives me 5 cars that can be identified by the VIN with their graphics, plus car #36 for a total of 6.

Good Morning!
Many thanks to Bill and Peter for all the information they shared with me. My friend has made the decision to go ahead and sell the car. It looks like I've pretty much hijacked this thread, so I'll start another one later with all the information I have on this one so far. I also have a pretty good collection of pics.
Thanks everyone!
Ken

I sent an email to Graphik Concepts to see if they had any additional information on this car. I got an email back from Marilyn This morning. She said she could not locate this VIN in their records, and asked me to verify it. I sent it to her again, and she checked again. Here was her response:

I double checked my list of vin numbers. Nothing comes close to the number you gave me. I did find however that on my list I had 30 Camaro’s listed without vin numbers. They may have been parade vehicles that didn’t receive graphics or vehicles that arrived latter and graphics were installed by the track. I don’t have any price information for that year’s Brickyard vehicles so I have to assume that we no longer have graphics for that year. I will check next week with my boss (he is in Indy installing graphics for this years Indy Race) when he returns.

Is it common to have parade cars without graphics, or to have the graphics installed at the track? If there are some parade cars without graphics, maybe that would account for so few that are known to still exist.

To my knowledge, the track support vehicles are all most always decaled at the Speedway. As for parade cars without graphics, I can't answer that.

Hi, I just joined this site. I just purchased a 99 brickyard camaro. It still has all the graffics on it. I did a car fax on it. all that said was that it was sent to auction in june of 2000 with a little over 200 miles. it was listed as being sold my the manufacturer. the first thing listed is Pete Estes chevy in Indy with 0 miles. is there a way I can find out info on my car like the car number. there is no number now on the widshield. the person we got the car from didn't know what they had. they couldn't remember if there was a number on the windshield. Please help....Lynda
