Can someone confirm that the actual 1996 Brickyard 400 pace cars were 1996 models while the 50 festival cars were 1997's? Bill @ Camaroipc.com (remove the spaces)

I can't document this, but here's an ad for what is described as one of the Pace Cars built for the 1996 race. If my memory is correct this is a car that Barrett Jackson sold that was from the Chevrolet Historical Collection. I have also read somewhere that the three 1996 Pace Cars were 1995 Camaros that received the 1997 Houndstooth interiors. This ad is the only thing I can find right now that may document that.

I found that the Camaro White Book states the three 1996 Pace Cars were 1996 Z28 coupes. The Festival replicas were within the first 100 VINs built of the 1997 models. I've been looking through issues of Camaro Enthusiast Magazines for articles about the 1996 Pace Car, but so far, I haven't been able to find one.
