Lee, your right. The 1999 Brickyards had dark gray seats. This particular car was for sale earlier this spring and the VIN
is in the range of the other Festival Cars from that year. I thought I heard somewhere that this car may have been a giveaway,
but I'm not sure about that.
I'm wondering if the owner could be Lyndalu who posted in this thread. This was the car I was referring to in that thread when I asked her if the car
was purchased in NY.
Brian, that car was once part of the Bob McDorman collection in Ohio. It was sold a year or so ago at auction in Florida.
Again, the VIN is the range of other Festival Cars, but it is not included on the list published in the Camaro Enthusiast
magazine article in the May/June 1997 issue. Not really sure how it fits in. This thread talked about the car some.
Greg, this isn't the first car car I've seen that had this done. A few years ago, there was a 2000 Brickyard Camaro sold here
in Iowa that had the dash trim painted like that. I agree with you, it is not something very appealing. Like Brian said it
could be changed back to stock very easily.
I am the owner of the car in question people were asking about. I was wondering if anyone can authenticate the car as far
as production #, etc. I know the bezels were painted white, no big deal to change back, but yes the seats are white. Just
wondering if someone knows specifics, because it looks like it is not an imposter to us. Please get back. Thanks in advance
for the info. The prior owner traded it to us and told us there were 400 automatic convertibles for 1999.
Welcome to the site, Mike. Your going to find very few people have the ability to authenicate your car. The information to
do this just isn't availabile to those who were not associated with the program at the time. I'm not even sure the Speedway
has the information to do this.
A letter Scott Settlemire wrote to another owner listed how many cars were used for
the 1999 Brickyard. Here is some what Scott said:
45 Z28s were used, all but two were FE9 (Federal) Emmission
System. Of the two that weren't, one was YF5 (CA) and the other was NG1 (NY).
two SS convertibles were used.
four V6/Sport
Appearance convertibles were used for administration use and were part of a promotion with Lowe's.
If these numbers are
correct, I'm not sure where your car would fit in. Generally, the 45 Z28's used would have all been virtually indentical in
appearance. The fact your car has white leather seats separates it from the others that have dark grey leather. You might
want to check the RPO codes on the driver door to verify what interior option the car came with. Because the car has the graphics
package installed and the VIN is very close to the other known Festival Cars, that should be a strong indication that the
car was used at the track in some capacity. Without the records, it may be impossible to find out just what that may have
been.
