That does seem like a great deal. If that were my car I would have kept it for that little bit of money.

Mike, did they list the VIN or the mileage on this car? There have been several of these cars for sale lately on Ebay and Craigslist and I was wondering if this could have been one of those cars. One of the cars on Ebay sold for a high bid of $9900, but it was relisted several times after that and was sold at $9300 and $8400. This particular car sure gave me the impression the bids were being run up by the seller. I don't understand why some sellers just don't use a reserve with their bottom dollar instead of playing games by driving the bids up.

Lot #T89 at Mecum St. Charles IL auction currently going on. You have to register to see bidding results. They do not list VINs and no miles either on this one, what you see (other than a couple other poor quality pictues) is what you get. Was a '93 Indy pace car a few lots after this that was a no-sale at $7750.

A couple of general questions:
- What is a parade boot?
- With 49 built and only 12 sold to the public, what would they have done with the rest?

Jim, the parade boot is a 3 piece cover used to conceal the convertible top when its down. It can be pricey to replace it and the vinyl storage case if their missing.

I have always been intriqued with statements like only 12 released to the public. I've been told this was the case in 1998 also. In fact, Scott Settlemire recently told me he thought there were only 12 SS convertibles used at the Brickyard 400 in 1998. This information conflicts with what Howard published in a Camaro World article in February 2002. Pictures taken on raceday would tend to support Howard's article. I've never been able to document where this information originates from, so its almost impossible to know what is fact or fiction. As for what was done with the other 37 cars, they were probably used for other GM events and then released to dealers for resale. Again, without being able to document this, a person can't really know for sure.

Thanks Peter.
For the parade, obviously the celeb. sits were the boot would normaly be. I just thought that there might be a special cover(boot) of some kind for them to sit on.

If I sell my Brickyard 400, I have an extra GM convertible top boot setup with the storage bag that I will be able to sell.

Hey everyone,
There were more than 12 cars used at the 1998 Brickyard 400. All of the Camaro "SS" convertibles were used and issued to all and it was also the last year for the Brickyard 400 "Festival" cars as well.
If you want the facts on the Years and what was used just let me know.
I still have the information at hand for all of the years I worked on these races.
Take care. . . . . . . . . . .
